EAC to AAC transcoding?

Server Version#: 1.31.2.6810-7000
Player Version#: Latest from samsung tizen app store

I was at my gf’s house and I tried to play an episode on her Samsung 2020 Tizen TV from Plex. It didn’t go well and there were many interruptions. So I tried to stream the same episode from my iPhone 13, and that went smoothly… So there was no problem with the connection to my NAS or from the wifi at her house.

So I went to Plex Dash to see the differences and I think the problem is with the audio transcoding. The file has got EAC3 and when it has to transcode to AAC on the TV, the stream doesn’t work. But on my iPhone 13, it’s transcoding the audio to OPUS…

Afterwards, I opened a movie which has AAC audio, and it played fine on that TV. When I tried to stream another movie with EAC audio, it tries to convert is again to AAC and the stream stops working…

Is this a limitation of the NAS, that it can’t handle well EAC to AAC transcoding? Or is there another way in order to make it work? Is it possible to forbid plex to transcode EAC to AAC? Because on my iPhone it’s always trancoding EAC to OPUS…

You’ve not provided any info about the NAS or the DEBUG log files ZIP which captures this happening.

Logs ZIP file is preferable

This is just a wild guess…

Based on my own experience with my Samsung tv, they drop software support for the apps (no further updates, etc) about 20 minutes after you get the thing home and set up. And the Plex app for my Samsung is relatively poor to begin with.
So while your player may be the latest available from Samsung’s app store, it may in fact be well out of date.

I’d suggest trying a standalone device such as a Roku device (maybe you can borrow one?) as a way to isolate the issue.

I thought it has to do with certain settings on my PMS instead of the Samsung player. Watching a movie with AAC audio works fine although PMS is also transcoding the audio…
