EAC3/TrueHD Encoded Files not Playing on Official Plex Docker

Server Version: 4.28.3 (Official Plex Media Server Docker - unRAID)
Player Version: 2.52.2 (Doesn’t work on any Player)
unRAID Version: 6.7.0

Hey Guys,

I’ve been having this issue for a while now. I can’t seem to play the majority of Dolby encoded files. EAC3 & TRUEHD fail but AC3 plays fine. It appears to be an issue with ‘EasyAudioEncoder’. The error I receive on every device is “Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.” All DTS file play fine.

I’ve cleared out the ‘…/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs’ folder, restared, no change. I’ve tried everything I could find online besides using a different Docker.

Permissions below:

Any help would be appreciated.

bump… same issue

Wow - I see there’s a lot of people with this problem.

How about including a “No Transcode” toggle on the android client?

In my case I solved the problem by not using the Plex Client App. Kodi played the files from the Plex server just fine, so the problem is that the Plex client incorrectly thinks that it can’t handle the EAC3 format. Allowing the user to force the client to play the file without transcoding will bypass that bug.

For user convenience if “no transcode” is set and a file looks like it needs it, a dialog could pop up saying “This file uses a format that may not be supported by your player. Transcoding may give you better results. Transcode? Yes/No”. Default to “No” since the user already selected “no transcode” in Settings.

It seems strange that a “no transcode” option wasn’t put into the Settings menu years ago. Is there a reason that this might not be something that Plex wants to include?

I was perfectly fine and it hit me now…
