Each sports event from a single recording rule is in a separate show

I’m recording NFL games for a single team. The first three games were recorded outside of Plex, and the second two using the Plex LiveTV and DVR capability.

Originally Plex scanned the first three games and couldn’t match them (no Sports on TVDB), so I renamed the original three games to match the Plex naming convention from the Wiki, and they scanned in as Nfl Football - some tweaking to the metadata and it looked fine.

The first game I recorded using Plex appeared as a new show, NFL Football and in a new folder NFL Football (2002). I confirmed that the new recording’s filename didn’t conform to the naming convention in the Wiki, so renamed the original three again to match and rescanned. Still separate shows. Moved the files so all games are in the folder Plex is using for the recordings, rescanned, still separate shows. Merged the two shows - now only one show, but the metadata for the game recorded by Plex was no longer honored correctly. Fixed up the metadata for all four games, noting that the games I recorded outside of Plex had Episode 923, for example as opposed to 9/23/18 - no biggie.

The second game recorded and this is in a separate show again, despite all the games being named with identical format and in the same folder. Obviously merging the shows is not the way to go, it merges the wrong way. So, how can I get the now four games that are outside the show that Plex will use for the rest of the season to appear in the correct show?

Ahh, it seems I have incorrectly identified the issue. Plex puts each recording in a new show, so this appears to be an ever compounding issue - I now have three separate shows with the latest game recorded in yet another new show. I expect today’s game to take us to four shows.

Any ideas why this is happening, I can’t imagine that this is what the devs intends to happen?

Obviously clutching at straws here. I’ve deleted the recording schedule and recreated it just in case that helps.

Not a comment aimed at fellow customers/users, but I am a little surprised that no one on the payroll at Plex has offered any comment, helpful or otherwise. This is a paid for feature and I know the fine print didn’t say there was definitely support - but it also didn’t say there was no support either.
