Environment:
Unraid 7.0.0 on Linux
(Trial) Plex Media Server: 4.143.0 (This is POC implementation running on VMBOX Guest.)
Issue: All TV Show videos are not being displayed in Plex (correctly).
Naming conventions being used (as appropriately as I can determine for episodes), and for directory structure:
TV Shows
Show
Season xx
episode name - sxxexx.mp4
POC TV Shows episodes being used (below):
MASH (2 episodes/Season 08)
Hogan’s Heroes (3 episodes/season 01)
The West Wing (2 episodes/Season 01)
Issues:
MASH - No Issues
Hogan’s Heroes. episodes 1 and 2 display fine. episode 3 does not display anywhere in Plex including not in the FOLDER MASH. It does show in Unraid in the correct folder. I have rescanned the library multiple times, Clean Bundles, Emptied Trash. I can’t think of anything else to do. I cannot get the 3rd episode to appear in Plex.
The West Wing: Series does not show when viewing via TV Shows, Seasons or Episodes. The West Wing directory does show when viewing via FOLDERS. However, the Cover Art and thumbnails are wrong once you navigate through the folders (The West Wing | Season 01). Instead Hogan’s Heroes episodes 1 and 2 are displayed. If I edit each one of the videos and goto “INFO” (see print screen below), you will see there are 2 paths to the video. The first one is referencing Hogan’s Heroes - s01e01 first and then The West Wing -s01e01 in the second path. See print screen below (at least I hope you see it).
How did the s01e01 of The West Wing get a reference to s01e01 of Hogan’s Heroes? I have tried deleting the Plex database and recreating it. But the issue continues.
Update: I solved my missing Hogan’s Heroes episode 3 issue (that was the second bullet listed in my “Issues”.
The added folder to the library (TV Shows) is a grandparent to The West Wing series. I don’t know how to show you the entire hierarchy in Plex (it would be nice if I could get Plex to show the entire hierarchy when in “FOLDER” view.
I did Deselect Prefer Local Media on the TV Shows (grandparent) directory and saved the change. I then rescanned, but the West Wing episodes still have the 2 paths in the INFO panel.
THANK YOU!!! It now appears to be working. I’m doing further testing by adding some more episodes / movies. After I thought about it, I understand where I misunderstood.
No mixing movies and tv shows in the same library.
If you’ve movies in dvd-media, they need to be in their own folder, which is added to a Movie library.
Example:
/media/dvd-media <-- not added to any Plex library
../movies <-- folder added to movie library
..../Avatar (2009) <-- movie_name (year)
....../Avatar (2009).mkv
../tv shows <-- folder added to tv show library
..../Hogan's Heroes (1965)
....../Season 01
