I’d appreciate some clarification about how setting “Editions” on movies in my library affects watch history, ratings and the ability to leave reviews for the community.
I’ve read in the latest docs:
Do Multiple Editions work with watch state syncing?
If you’ve enabled syncing of watch state and ratings, that does not currently work with “editions” of movies. Any regular, non-edition movie in your library can sync its watch state or rating, but if you’ve added “edition” information to the item, that item will not be included in syncing. (Doing so would indicate that the activity definitely came from a personal Plex Media Server, since “editions” aren’t available elsewhere.)
So, my question is simple: is the behavior I detail below intentional or a bug?
I have this repeatable issue that I can’t make heads or tails of. Here it is:
- I watch a movie in my library that has some sort of edition set in the filename e.g. Title (year) {tmdb-XXXX} {edition-Extended Cut}…mkv.
 - I leave a rating
 - I go to leave my thoughts as a review for the community, but I am unable to add one (on any of my clients)
 - I check my watch history to see if I can work around it by editing my rating however the movie is not even showing up in my Watch History.

Things I have done to verify the behavior:
- I have downloaded the mobile Plex Dash app to verify the play history is updating and syncing (which it is)
 - I have tried playing numerous movies that all have some sort Edition set and clearly identified correctly in the file naming
 - I have downloaded the server logs and verified there are no ‘FATAL’ logs or anything of the sort relating to these UI actions
 - I have restarted the docker container and even my server to no avail
 - I have removed the Edition field (verified it no longer exists in the filename), removed the watch history using the Plex Dash app, removed the star rating and then proceeded to add everything back (except the Edition). Only then was I able to see everything work as I expected.

I’ve spent 2 days investigating this, so I’m coming here having done my homework so-to-speak. I hope that’s evident. However, let me know if more details are needed.
Thanks in advance!
