I’m using an HDHomeRun Connect to record television via Plex’s DVR features. This results in EIA_608 captions being recorded for the programs, and I’m dependent on them due to my hearing loss.
This all works perfectly in the web client, but on the Apple TV and IOS clients I do most of my watching on, WHILE EIA_608 shows up as the automatically-selected subtitle format, the subtitles don’t actually display unless I disable them and reenable them. This only lasts for the current playback session - if I pick another show to watch, I have to disable and reenable again. Needless to say, this is a bit of a pain point in that it makes the watching experience more cumbersome.
Am I missing something in the player settings, or is this a bug somewhere?
