Enable Companion Player Control

The latest version of Plex for Windows disabled current functionality that I was relying on. I tend to use my mouse and keyboard for my large TV screen, but additionally enjoy using voice commands to control Plex.

I was disappointed when my voice commands no longer worked after updating to the latest version of Plex for Windows. While I understand that the functionality is available in Plex HTPC, it is much easier for me to use mouse and keyboard. I don’t want to have another controller laying on the coffee table for functionality that my mouse and keyboard already have. I also don’t want to have to power on one of my Xbox controllers whenever I start Plex.

I understand the push to use something that is “better” for controlling something farther away. However, I think that better mouse functionality in the HTPC player is something that is needed before disabling existing functionality in an effort to push people towards this. HTPC could fit my use case in the future, but it currently does not. Current functionality should not be disabled in another platform in an effort to push people towards this.

I have disabled future updates to Plex for Windows by going to
C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Plex\cache

Then right click the updates folder and go to: properties → security → edit → select administators → click deny under the full control column

This will block Plex from updating automatically when you open the app.

They are going down the you’re using it wrong way, I had to go back to Plex-1.41.0.2876-e960c9ca-x86_64 and disable auto-updates, I do control my plex media player using my phone sometimes, but most of the time I just use my mouse and keyboard, instead they want me to use plex HTPC, sigh.
