"Plex for Windows" or "Plex Media Player"?

It looks like Plex Media Player app hasn’t been updated since 2020. It’s not able to playback my IPTV liveTV channels anymore. I don’t have any issues with the Android app and the web browser versions. I haven’t tried Plex for Windows in over 2 years since it had almost no settings/options for video/audio fidelity. I’ve been using Kodi + PlexKodiConnect in the meantime. https://100001.onl/

I’d suggest checking out both Plex for Windows and Plex HTPC. Functionally, they are Plex Media Player split into two different apps: One for desktop, mouse-based usage. The other for home theater use with a 10-foot interface and navigated using primarily your keyboard. They both support audio passthrough features on-par (or better than?) those provided by PMP.

Does it support various remote controls that window supports? For example, the green button media center remote controls?

Unfortunately, I have no idea. There is anecdotal evidence on the forums that it does, but I cannot speak to any specific remotes or features.

[Edit]
This support document describes the process of using controllers/remotes with Plex HTPC.

The next version of HTPC will support Windows media keys in a native manner so if your controls work in other media apps it will work in HTPC. It may work in the current version but the support in the next is better.

In the Testing Windows HDR Switching build those improvements are already in if I´m not mistaken. One thing I noticed is that on Windows 10 whenever the play or pause button is being hit, Windows shows the status screen of what’s playing right now in the upper left corner. Is it possible to hide this useless status screen?

There doesn’t seem to be a way to programmatically hide this; I checked around 2 weeks ago. Maybe there’s a Windows setting that does this; I hadn’t looked that hard for this.

The way that MS implemented this is extremely disappointing. On MacOS it’s a menu extra so it’s out of the way unless you want to see it but Windows appears to always be an overlay that’s in the way.

ok well, I guess that´s nothing new when it comes to stuff implemented by MS. ^^

I found a viable workaround for this, at least on my end as I only use Plex HTPC on that system. I simply changed the config of my Flirc. The pause button is now interpreted as the “P” key, which does the same - it pauses video playback but without showing the overlay.

For others who use different programs on the same machine that also need to be controlled by a remote and remapping keys is not an option, this might not be the solution. I found a small program called HideVolumeOSD => http://wordpress.venturi.de/?p=1 that should hide the overlay altogether, but I have not tried it (yet)…
