The music advanced library is developing well. The main missing features for me are 1) reading the ID3 tags for ratings and 2) allowing to filter based on ratings.
My typical “autofilter” playlist is [genres]+[minimum ratings]. I have used this for years with iTunes and WMP and others. This way when I add a new album, I listen to it all, then tag the best tracks. When I run a playlist the new, best songs are added. In Windows Media Center, this was very simple.
I would be very grateful if you could set Plex to do something similar. This is the only feature that is keeping Plex from being my primary media player.
Thank you. Purchasing a lifetime PlexPass was some of the best money I have ever spent.
2020 update to this 2015 post - while the autoplaylist features have expanded, there is still no import of the ratings tags. How can this be? We have had reading and writing of ratings since the early days of WMP. Please add this fundamental feature.
Hi,
I need a new NAS server and my two favorites systems supported plex Media server.
At the moment I use Kodi and jriver media center.
Both support to import all already existing ID3 tags and intelligent playlist.
I realy can not believe, that this features are not supported from Plex.
These are basics and are a must have feature of a usefull music library solution.
I have a large music collection with a lot of songs rated via Windows Media Player, MusicBee and other MP3 players. They all use the same metadata to read & write the ratings. Why doesn’t Plex use the same metadata? it’s not reasonable to maintain ratings via two different sources.
Please Plex, add support for reading the ratings of existing MP3 files !
I have also looked for this option for a long time.
I want to go for plex, but without having the possibility to import my rating its just not gonna happen. Its to much work.
I’m using DS-Audio on my Synology and this is able to import ratings from itunes library fine.
If this could be posible on plex server running on a NAS, i will swap right away to plex.
I’m in the same camp. Love Plex for movies and tv shows, spent a day fiddling with Music and it’s just not up to snuff. MusicBee is the best music library system I’ve found, and I’ve tried most of them.
Sign me up for this feature - I am in the same boat as many. I have a huge music collections, tagged and rated over decades.
I’m working through moving a subset of my library and it seems I can deal with most of my other concerns in the short term, I’m still poking at them though.
Ratings not being written to tags is a deal breaker though.
Actually, now I think about it supporting reading and writing metadata tags in source media in general should be a core design principle for Plex.
Edit: Don’t bother, Mediamonkey has been lurking in the background like an 800lb gorilla waiting for a baby to fall in its pen, and I just dropped the baby. Plex for music is dead in my home.
Sign me up for this feature as well. I also have been rating my songs for a long time now. Started with Zune, was able to migrate that over to iTunes, and was able to migrate playlists over to Plex and rate the music that was in a playlist, but now that I’ve been using Plex’s song rating system, I have no way of backing this up or exporting it (AFAIK).
