Endless Download

I have made the horrible mistake of trying the Download feature.

The file in question is a 200 MB mp3 which is not being transcoded.

For 1 Month now, I get a constant “Media download by…” on my Plex server.

I have tried restarting the server and client. Started a new download of the same file, which worked without problems, and the deleting it afterwords.

How do I get rid of this annoyance?

1 Month + 2 Days, still downloading.

Which device / app are you using ?

On iOS (what I have), it’s trivial to cancel a download.

Plexamp or Plex Client on Android.

Neither of them display anything if I click on Downloads.

On Android, when you want to delete something, is there a ‘slide left’ action ?
(this is what we have on iOS)

To delete a download, I:

  1. Open the device settings menu (Upper left corner pancake stack)
  2. Scroll down and see a Download is running
  3. Tap it and now see the download(s) in the right half of the display
  4. Slide-left on the one I want to delete.
  5. Tap “Cancel” to cancel (stop) the download.

Do you have anything like that?

There are no files in “downloads” and there is no indication at all on my phone that a download is happening in any way.

The notification is only present on my Server/web interface. After a reboot it stops, however after some time it starts “downloading” again.

Thank you for your reply.

May I see your server DEBUG logs which should have this activity in them?

Did you look at the logs?

it’s full of

Are all your logs that way?

Do you know which specific file this is?

If so, Move it temporary to someplace PMS can’t get to it then restart the server.
If you wait a few minutes after restarting before moving it back, what happens?

I have tried this, including a scan when removed and when added again. Unfortunately it did not work.

I also still see this error message, but not constantly while it is displaying “media download”.

Here is a current log, while “media download” is being displayed:
Plex Media Server.zip (36.8 KB)

Do you know which specific file this is?

I suspect it is the relevant file, as I don’t have many mp3s. Server analyzed and set loudness without problem though.

You’ve given me 1 file, containing only an error message, with no way to track it.
At face value, you have a corrupted file.

  1. Please turn DEBUG logging back on. It doesn’t save space with it off.
  2. Recreate again.
  3. Download and attach fresh logs which capture this

Here is the log with debug on. Do you need any other files, if yes, which one?
Plex Media Server.zip (703.2 KB)

May I have the entire ZIP please which PMS gives you?

This zip contained 5 “Error” statements; none of which were playback created.

Plexamp pre-caches the play queue ahead of time, to allow for loss of network. This shows up as a download in the dashboard.

Still downloading.

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-12-05_06-12-03.zip (4.1 MB)

Nothing is Downloading according to your logs. Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing?

I believe what @elan was referring to in Plexamp there are caching options in Settings>Advanced>Caching which shows up as a download in dashboard. I don’t believe there is a way to completely turn it off but you can set it to only the next track in the Wifi and Cellular options.

That’s all nice and good. But I guess it is not normal to show downloading for 1 1/2 Months for a 300MB file? When I am neither playing the file nor Plexamp being open.
