Endless scanning of TV Shows

My Plex Media Server is endlessly scanning the TV Shows folder. If I cancel the scan, it restarts itself within a minute. At least once a day we have to restart the computer in order to watch anything on Plex. I have checked for a corrupted database and didn’t find anything but ran a repair anyway. I have deleted the setup for recording a show and the copies of the show that seemed to hang things when I looked at them. Nothing seems to help. Can someone point me in the right direction. This is on a mac mini. I’m attaching logs. Thanks for any help.

Step 1, turn off verbose logging.

Step 2, what directory is your library pointing to? Looks like you have it pointing to some DropBox location that includes a lot more than just your media files.

Thanks for the help. I turned off verbose logging. I can’t find any reference to Dropbox in Plex so I don’t understand where that was coming from. It does seem to be somehow working a little better. Can you tell where I should look for the Dropbox reference? In eCh library under add fo,Dee’s it lists the names of the folders and Dropbox is not listed.

Thanks.

Karen

That is an example of a folder that the scanner is checking. What folder is your library pointing to?

My library is pointing to Users/Karen/Plex TV. My movies library goes to Users/Karen/Movies, and there doesn’t seem to be an issue there. It isn’t hanging the server any more (or at least far less often), so it isn’t as much an issue for me, but it does look in the alerts like it is actually scanning hundreds of times over the course of an hour or so. I’m sure that’s tying up resources that I don’t want.

My other problem is this. I bought a lifetime Plex Pass so that I can dvr tv shows. I’m having trouble getting them to dvr them consistently. It took me a while to get it set up right but then it started taping them. (I seemed to be unable to set up a taping on my ipad. It would look right but not ever tape. So I deleted that recording setup and did it on the Mac mini and it worked). But my show last night didn’t record and it should have. It has other weeks. I’m probably getting about a third of the recordings I’m trying for. This seems much more complicated than I think it should be. I feel like I need a computer science degree or something if I want to make it work.

Can you get me a new log after scanning all your libraries? One of these must be set wrong and scanning something it shouldn’t be.

There are some reports of recordings not working when they should. When you send me your logs for the other issue, I can look for this too. What is the last show that didn’t record? Hopefully this will be in the log. To be sure, if you can perform the scan after something fails to record, and get me the logs then, I can check out both issues.

com.dropbox.foldertagger looks like a hidden system folder used in windows library virtual folder and dropbox sync.

Hi,

I finally got the chance to go download logs again. The scanning seems to have stopped, so maybe something you had me do worked. As far as the recording goes, I had 8 recordings set to go over the last week and only 3 of them actually recorded. Here is what I wanted to record:

Murphy Brown, Thursday 10/25, s1e5, recorded

Blue Bloods, Friday 10/26, s9e5, recorded

NCIS LA, Sunday 10/28, s10e5, did not record

Madam Secretary, Sunday 10/28, s5e4, did not record

The Good Doctor, Monday 10/29, s2e5, did not record

Magnum, P.I., Monday 10/29, s1e6, did not record

NCIS, Tuesday 10/30, s16e6, did not record

NCIS NO, Tuesday 10/30, s5e6, recorded

They have all recorded at some time in the past. Over the time when I was having trouble with the scanning it doesn’t surprise me that things didn’t record since we would have to restart it just to watch Plex. But now that it’s working again it seems like things should record.

Thanks for the help.

Karen

I need new PMS logs so I can check these times to see what happened.

Sorry. I had made them, but didn’t get them attached.

Thanks. We are looking into it. I do see something.

Any progress on this?

Have you try the latest public update, 1.13.9.5456. There was a fix to address what i think was the issue you were seeing.
