When I watch anime with Japanese dubs, the English subtitles are not automatically chosen for me using Plex for Windows. I can see this from the episode preview screen here:
They also are not chosen for me when I start playing that episode, I always have to select it manually.
What am I doing wrong? Yes, I did search Google about this issue and read up on existing Plex Forum posts about it. I’m setting all of the recommended settings as far as I can tell.

You are misunderstanding those settings. For the mode, you have it set to “shown with foreign audio”. By selecting Japanese are your preferred audio language, Japanese is now the default and a foreign audio language will be anything other than Japanese. So in this case, it will select the Japanese audio but it won’t select the subtitle, since the audio is not foreign. You’ll have to set the mode to always or change the audio language to English that way Japanese is foreign, but then you’ll have to manually change the audio tracks if they also include an English track.
What I really want is for a specific language for both audio and subtitles to be chosen for me for only my Anime library. However, I know that’s not currently possible. If you have any workarounds to get as close to this as possible, I’d love to see them. Thank you for your response.
No workarounds I know of. There are several different feature requests related to this. One is to change the default setting to be per library, another is to auto select the language (audio and subtitle) tracks after picking it once for a show. I think I even saw someone ask for an option to have the default settings per show because they have all their shows in 1 library. Search around and find the one you think would be best for you and vote for it.
