Frustrating subtitle settings

I’m having a really frustrating time with my subtitle settings and can’t seem to get them to work correctly. I watch a lot of stuff in English and a fair amount of foreign language stuff too. What I want is for my media to play in its original language (so English for most stuff but say, Japanese for manga, etc). If it’s going to be playing in a foreign language, I want subtitles in English; if it’s in English, I don’t want subtitles at all.

The trouble is that I can’t seem to make the settings do that. If I set it to prefer audio tracks in English, then I end up with dubbed instead of subbed manga and world cinema. If I tell it to prefer audio tracks in “none”, I tend to get the right audio but, if I then set subtitles to “English”, I get subtitles for everything, not just the foreign language stuff. I really don’t want to have to toggle the subtitles off for every English show or movie I watch.

Can anyone help me get this right? Cheers.

The sad answer is you cannot do this.
Neither with Plex nor other players (at least none that I’m aware of).
It’s just too many if-thens for the automatic audio and subtitle track selection. Your best shot might actually be to manually set the language in Plex for those when you add new media.

Ah, nevermind. Thanks for the swift reply.
