Hi all,
the photo slide show features of Plex are very rudimentary. It would be great to have a modernized photo slide show experience.
What I am missing is for example:
- different transitions
- pan and zoom effects
- support for panorama pictures (taken by popular smartphones and digital cameras, Plex does not seem to support these ultra wide jpgs)
- support for videos, placed in the same folder
- select more than one album to show as slide show (e.g. create a slide show vacation 2015 and select all albums with vacation photos from 2015)
There is another post on this topic forums.plex.tv/discussion/174250/can-you-configure-the-photo-slideshow, but not in the feature request section.
Hoping that I am not the only one missing these features, so start voting.
I agree here, it’s the single biggest feature I’ve wanted to see out of Plex for years now. I think the rest of the platform is really well built out already (stoked about DVR as well) in most other areas but definitely not photos/slideshows.
The use case for me here is that we all have tons of photos that we take and load somewhere centrally but users have no good way of getting to see all those great shots and memories without deciding explicitly to go find them and then start a limited slideshow. How great would it be if the system was just rotating a lot of this automatically when not performing some other action.
Specifically, I’d like to be able to launch a slideshow very quickly where I can really tailor what the image selection criteria are. I’d love to be able to select by file tags, folders, time-ranges, geographic location, etc. and also multi-select any of these things. For instance, my family vacations in the Outer Banks in NC annually. These photos are organized into folders and dates so I can view any single folder easily but not just “all photos from x place.” I just want to be able to select something like an area of a map. I could do the same with tags. This way, Plex could select all photos matching that criteria and then randomize the slideshow.
Integrate that with the screensaver functionality for when the system is up but is not displaying a movie or any other content I’ve directly selected. Maybe users can set the default screensaver criteria in advance.
Lastly, this is actually functionality that I can’t find in any application out there at all. It could be a unique, cool offering from Plex.
I’d like to see a way to control the speed of the slide show as well. Currently I just find it too fast for my taste.
And looping as well would be nice.
