"Enhanced Player" black spinning screen only audio

Ok. Check any other videos you run into that have this issue and see if the xml shows this

codecID="hev1"

The player is having issues with this for some reason. This was found from another user report Plex on iOS stutters playing HEVC mp4 with codec ID as HEV1 - Infuse does not. This issue is filed internally.

Got it- I will keep an eye out on this, but this seems reasonable. If memory serves me, I have seen this before when looking through. Will circle back if I find different. Thank you!

Here is another one but I am not seeing the codecID field at all on this one
stsnw.zip (3.5 KB)

I’m having the same issue on Apple TV 4K box (3rd gen) and 8.21

Seems to happen with HEVC 4K Dolby Vision with EAC3 5.1 for me.

If I play a video from the start, it plays fine.
If I resume a video part way through, or fast forward a video - I get a spinning circle with black screen, but the sound plays.

I don’t have any logs, sorry.

The same video plays perfectly fine in Infuse, but also plays perfectly fine on my Roku Ultra in another room using Plex client running off the same Plex Server - so the issue just relates to Plex on the iOS TV

I would +1 on this being an issue with HEVC videos on the ATV client (mostly with the enhanced player IMO, but that might be because it forces transcoding otherwise)

It, unfortunately, would appear @MovieFan.Plex is no longer with Plex :frowning:

@ChuckPa - I know this isn’t really your wheelhouse, do you know of anyone that could check on the status of this issue that our beloved MovieFan.Plex friend mentioned?

It’s definitely outside my wheelhouse but I’ll do my best.

I checked and the issue is open and has already been escalated for attention.

In the ticket, I conveyed this is also an issue on ATV4 4K (3rd gen) and asked if there is any progress to report.

Plex doesn’t support dv properly. It just produces fake dv. Even if it worked the audio would be out of sync anyways cause the AppleTV app is beyond broken for the past three and a half years.

It’s not even a funny joke anymore how little Plex gives a ■■■■.emphasized text

Woah. I get it’s frustrating but let’s show some respect.

For stating facts lol 3 and a half years with the basic issues not being fixed, only getting worse but “hey guys let’s be nice”. I think nice was the strategy in year 1&2, not year 3/4+

All, please follow our forum guidelines, and keep the tone civilized, and in respect for each other

Then I would suggest finding software that better suits your needs instead of being disrespectful on this forum if you are that dissatisfied.

They are here to help.

Have a great day.

Thanks for looking into this. I’m having the same issue as well, and I find myself constantly switching between then new and old player. Some files only play on one while some only play on the other. In the interim, is it possible to have the enhanced player fallback to the old player if this codec is encountered? Once the codec is playable in the enhanced player, this interim solution could be removed, but it would be a pretty massive quality-of-life improvement if this just had an auto-fallback.
