Summary:
Handling of “trash” should be enhanced. Here are my proposed improvements (in order of perceived priority):
- Allow browsing of the trash so one can see what all will be affected when emptying the trash.
- Allow user to set a threshold for the number of items that will be removed when automatic emptying of trash is enabled. For example, don’t automatically empty the trash if more that 20 items are currently in the trash.
- Allow purging of only select items (this might already be allowed, but as I don’t currently have any items in the trash I am unable to easily verify right now).
Full story:
This is something that has been bothering me for a while, so I figured I would post it as a feature request. Basically, I have disabled the automatic emptying of the trash because I have several volumes and from time to time one or more of them will be unavailable when I am performing maintenance or something strange is going on with my system. Because I know that these files will be coming back, removing them would be silly.
However, when I get a better copy of a file, I will replace add it to the library and remove the old copy and these items show up in the “trash”. As a result, it is not uncommon for me to have a few items appear in the trash periodically and I have to manually purge them. I can do this, but I would like to be able to verify how many items are in the trash and what they are before I empty the trash. I am sure I could do some manual sqlite queries against the db, but it seems like viewing the contents of the trash should be a standard feature “like modern operating systems” to quote the article at support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200289326-Emptying-Library-Trash
