EPG & Chromecast 4k - Blanked display & lockup

Server Version#: 4.92.0
Player Version#: 9.10.0.35737
Tuner Make/Model: HD Homerun HDHR5-4DT
Guide/Lineup name: Live TV
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: All channels
Server host: Synology NAS DS218+
DSM: 7.1.1 - 42962
Player host: Chromecast 4k

Hi
I have the above setup, hung together using a managed switch and Google mesh wifi

The problem I have is after watching Live TV for a while and then returning to the EPG using the remote, the channel display is all out of sync and many channels are listed as blank. This requires backing out of the Live TV guide and then going back in to force a guide reload before listings return.

Also, when watching a channel with adverts, the TV display locks up when the adverts come on, and also locks up when the adverts finish before the programme resumes. I assume this is maybe caused by the setting to mark adverts so they can be skipped ? although the prog is not being recorded

Anyone else experience any of the above and can help shed any light on the issues please ?

FYI, that’s a Plex Web version number.

PMS 1.29.1 has EPG & other LiveTV/DVR fixes. Might update if you have not yet done so.

Thanks… have just updated, will feedback on what I find.

Unfortunately no joy, still have EPG out of sync and blanks shown. When a prog ends and adverts start, either it will lock up or ‘An error occurred’ message.
This all appears client side to me
Any thoughts anyone ? Link to screen shots

I’ve changed a good number of settings, including number of background processes allowed to run on the Chromecast, display and sound settings
I am fast coming to the occlusion that the Plex client does not run well on Chromecast 4k. It works but is not flawless.
I migrated from ‘Channels’; which ran smoothly with no issues,
So a few things here then, either I migrate to a more powerful hardware client such as Fire Cube v3 , go back to Channels or Plex weaves some streamlining magic with their client somehow

Okay, if anyone is interested, I have my own conclusion.

I lowered the quality of video and that helped, but still had playback errors etc

4 years ago I bought an Nvidia Shield. Subsequently put in the cupboard as I pursued alternatives at the time and ended up with a NAS and Google TV

Long & short… I installed the Shield, setup on my LAN with NAS and it performs with Plex client without buffering or playback errors… Something Plex on Google TV would not do.

Why ?.. so Google TV has a 100Mb Ethernet port. The Shield has a 1GB Ethernet port and is a far more powerful device. When I look at the play data for ITV HD playing at original quality on the Shield, the data stream was averaging 106Mb/s. So in effect Google Android TV over LAN does not play well with Plex or anything else with a data stream requirement of over 100mb/s.

Problem solved. Google’s Android TV (Chromecast type) is a lightweight streamer in my view, not powerful enough for certain apps & uses. Also… the Google device does not support AAC_LATM Stereo

Okay, so if I ever wanted confirmation of this, I had it last night as I watched a main stream media channel and saw that sometimes the stream exceeded 200 mb/s.

So unless your connection and device can handle such speeds, buffering and spinning circles will be in your life.

I have the same “partially blank EPG after clicking back from watching live tv” issue with my GoogleTV client (built into the TV).

Server version: 1.28.2.6151
Client version on GoogleTV: 9.10.1.36024

It has been doing this now for months, but I haven’t had a chance to log anything. If I exit the Live TV section and then go back in, the full guide properly shows.

Still an issue for me. How do you log an official ticket with Plex ?

I’m not sure but I was able to take a picture tonight showing this behavior. I assume your issue is the same?

Yes, exactly the same as you have pictured. I am glad it’s not just me, this clearly indicates a fault with the guide which we cannot resolve.
The common aspect between us is an Android OS.
I’ll do some digging to see how somebody can raise a ‘bug’ with Plex. But that does not seem straight forward… likely deliberately on their part.

Let me know. I plan to replace my Plex server this weekend with something more powerful, and perform the latest server-side upgrade. I don’t believe any of that will change things, but will post my results after.

So it seems Plex don’t have much in the way of technical support. I found this on Reddit

I’m running an NVidia Shield with a server running an NAS both connected over LAN. So the shield runs the client only, I had the same issue with Google TV with client only it. I’m inclined to think it’s a client side bug, but interested to know how you get on.

Same issue on brand new i5-based Windows server on Version 1.30.0.6359 64-bit.

Any thoughts, Plex? This is kind of annoying. It certainly seems to be an Android-based client issue.

@support_please ? @sa2000 Can you assist ?
