EPG from 2 markets OTA

Hi I’m about to deep dive into plex for the first time and wanted to know if I use a quad win TV USB turner
I have a directional antenna that points south towards Dallas Texas which is where most of my programming comes from however there few stations That the antenna is picking up from the north as they closer to me Can plex handle this?
Thanks!

Yes, but might require additional configuration. If for whatever reason the built-in EPG system is unable to provide you with all the channel guides due to geographic distance of stations, additional things are needed. Basically each channel requires an accompanying EPG for that station. If they are unable to be paired, that channel will not be accessible. So if this happens, a 3rd party guide provider will need to be used instead which is able to provide ALL the channels you hope to have. Plex does provide means of using this 3rd party provider instead of it’s internal system. Basically instead of giving Plex your Zip code, you would give it an XML (XMLTV) file to use instead. One thing to be aware of is that Plex want’s a local file location of this XML file which will most likely be supplied to you in a URL from a website. So you will have to make an automated downloader to fetch this file from the web and copy it locally for plex to use in it’s daily update. The alternative is to do it manually every day or so or else your channels will begin to disappear.

There are several providers, each with their own strengths. To name a few, Schedules Direct is a great choice for EPG but clearly doesn’t want plex users to use it, limit the geographic diversity of data to a few zip codes at most, is MUCH more involved to set up but does has the best data. IPTV-EPG has a wonderful easy editor to specify your own mix and match of EPG stations and has quite a large inventory and is the easiest solution but I find the guide data is not quite as good overall. xmltvlistings I found to be the least preferred due to no obvious advantage and does not have very good EPG.

Thanks so much for your reply!
Schedules Direct Looks like the better option
I don’t mind a hard setup
I only have 2 zip codes to worry about
Still trying to figure out should I run PMS on windows or Ubuntu
Is it better to grab JSON and convert to xml or use the call fees directly

Can someone point me in a rough direction of how to get started
I don’t mind a challenge but need a starting point

I have EPG123 pulling in my data and run a few commands every night. One to generate the daily guide data, and then another script to copy the files to the plex server. If you want my batch files, just let me know.

That would be awesome if you could share

I too live in two different markets in upstate NY, receive channels from Syracuse, and Elmira. Plex does not allow to me select two different markets to set-up channels even when I have six tuners, this has been a problem since last year when Plex changed the EPG provider (terrible move on Plex’s part). Anyways, I look at the suggests and visit many sites, it is clear a mud what I need to do. Where can I find a step by step guide?

I’m in the same boat. On the fringe of multiple markets. As far as I can see, there is no easy solution.

It can done using epg123 and schedules direct and a bat file to copy into the correct place but I am still trying to figure it all out anyone that has this any help would be most helpful
Thankyou

Plex really dropped the ball on their guide mapping design, I’ve tried different approaches but finally gave up as none were reliable for me. I started using the leading competitor to Plex, which makes using multiple “TV providers” simple to set up and map to channels. I have to map 4 providers to get my limited number of channels.

Would you mind sharing what option you went with

It has been several months for something which should be simple for the expert at Plex, two different markets, but only can select one. I am so disappointed in not have a solution for something Plex should be mastering. ATSC 3.0 is on the horizon which going change everything, but will Plex be the solution or just another media solution which fades???

Does anyone know why this is so complicated?
