I tried searching in this forum, but had no luck.
Is the EPG ever going to be updated so it’s like real TV/cable where the stations are in numerical order? Sometimes (most of the time) I just want to go to a specific channel or scroll numerically through them because often related content stations are grouped together.
I would love to just see a list like is offered from my existing cable provider as well as direct access to channels by typing in a number!
Thanks!
There are at least 20 threads on the subject of a traditional grid view. Its unlikely to happen anytime soon. It would be nice to see at least the channel numbers though.

Fair enough, but when I searched this DVR and Live TV forum for “EPG” I got primarily issues about refreshing.
Has anyone from the dev team ever said WHY they won’t/don’t do this? It is apparently a popular request if there are so many threads about it.
Its believed to based off certain patents that are held for a traditional type grid view. I think Plex just wants to do their own thing, regardless of what the masses want.
LOL…they are trying to appeal to the masses so I don’t think that’s it.
I guess it’s possible there are patents involved, but NextDVR and other free DVR programs use a more conventional EPG grid.
I am trying to cut the cord, but it’s a lot harder to get the non-techie people in the house to buy in when they can’t just go to the group of kids channels and see what’s on. Also the local channels…channels 4-15 for example are mostly local stations for me. I just want to scroll through and see what’s on.
At least some of those other DVR solutions are located outside of the states so im not sure the patents would be an issue. That’s a guess nothing else. I ditched the traditional grid a long time ago so converting my household was pretty simple. We record anything we choose to watch and use other streaming services for the others. I can’t do live TV anymore, i want to shoot my TV every time i see a commercial.
Yes, I generally only record and watch later as well so we can FF through commercials. News is the exception and my local news stations are not listed except randomly in the Plex EPG. Even if I filter by “News” they are not in order. I find it very annoying. I don’t know what all the PROGRAMS are called, but if I see news and I know the station number at least I can work with it.
Also, let’s say I want a particular program and it’s not on this minute, but it starts in 5. Doing a search isn’t going to tell me that without going and looking at every search result to see when it’s on. Being able to go direct or scroll to a kid’s station for example I’d see that it starts in a few minutes and I can plop my kid in front of it until starts.
Yeah from reading a few other threads news seems to be an ongoing problem. Hard to define, hard to record…
I can see a grid type view being useful for the second part. If they would at least add the channel numbers to the program guide it would make things easier.
