I’m a longtime Plex user for local media, but recently I decided to pickup a HDHR Prime and give this whole Live TV / DVR thing a shot.
I have Verizon Fios and a pretty verbose programming package. The native HDHR setup, as well as the Plex device setup went fairly smoothly, although its been downloading EPG data for almost 18 hours and still only at 64% – thats a bit shocking but it doesn’t seem to be causing any issues.
Other things I find hard to adjust to, and have questions about:
A traditional two-axis channel grid/epg for browsing channels across time.
The best means to filter available programming channels. For example, I certainly only want to include HD channels in what Plex surfaces to me, and also I would like to be able to filter further to just my favorite channels
I imagine these features exist in some form, but I haven’t been able to find them yet. Thanks in advance for any guidance
There is no two axis grid right now. Hopefully in the future buy there seems to be some talk about them not doing one for fear of litigation. That would be a tragedy if true.
You can pick the channels you want in the DVR tuner profile you set up for live tv. Not sure if there is a favorites or not yet.
Is there some kind of patent on that UI pattern? That would be a true shame, because I’m sure a Plex-y EPG grid would look much better than that of any provider I’ve ever experienced.
A second, although far less effective option might be to just offer a numerically chronological list view in the ‘Watch Now’ UI:
The thing that irks me us they don’t have channel numbers listed. I live in an area where I receive multiples of the major networks and PBS, but I have no easy way of telling which I want to tune to.
