Can people tell me the intended outcome of the following action in Plex on Apple TV;
Scroll down the EPG so you are no longer near the top. Select a channel to watch. With the program information box now visible, click back to return to the guide.
Outcome for me: The guide refreshes and jumps back to the top, losing my position in the list.
Expected outcome: You return to the exact position in the guide you were before.
Yes this is happening for me as well and I found this page searching for solutions or timelines on a fix since I plan to start using plex exclusively for live tv soon and it makes the experience miserable to browse different channels.
Yes! Same here. I just came on to look to see if others had the issue or if i needed to make a new thread. This is the biggest pain and makes it nearly unusable for me.
I don’t have a huge number of channels…about 100…but if I’m towards the bottom of the list and watch something, when i click back to the guide to go to another close channel i have to scroll all the way down again.
I realize Plex doesn’t seem to want to setup a “favorites” tab, so at the very least it seems it would be easier to have it remember where you were scrolling in the guide!
Finally! I can’t quite believe it but after nearly 18 months of the Apple TV Plex EPG having this issue, the latest BETA fixes the problem! Going back to the EPG from a program now returns you to wherever you were in the guide. They’ve also updated the look of the guide and the density if I recall correctly. It shows 7 channels at once instead of 5. Still a huge amount of wasted vertical space but better than before.
Well I’m not to mess with a beta, but look forward to this release.
Did they also add a bit more space on the left? Currently the Channel name/logo/number disappears off the left hand edge of the screen and I cannot adjust that on the TV. Renders the Guide pretty useless on that TV. This is really basic stuff, how can it still be so bad. I’ve had to revert to using Channels for live TV. That works pretty well perfectly. Compared to that, Plex is a joke and my wife refuses to use it. But Plex offers DVR capability and music which means I want it to work. Right now, it doesn’t. Not well enough to use.
That’s not a known issue. Is it only with the guide that you’re missing the left edge? Or do other views/screens on the Plex app have the left edge cut off?
Is this the Apple TV 4 or Apple TV 4K?
And you don’t have any part of the left edge missing on any other app?
It’s hard to tell if any other app is suffering from overscan as other apps don’t place such crucial information right up at the LH edge. It needs a margin so any overscan doesn’t chop off what is supposed to be seen.
The problem is permanent on a Panasonic 26" from an TV 4, but I have also seen it from an TV 4K to a Panasonic 65". On the latter, I changed away from the Enhanced video player and the problem went away. I changed that on the 24", but it made no difference. I have subsequently seen it again on the 65". I have absolutely no idea under what circumstance this occurs, but I found how to turn off any overscan within the TV settings and that fixed it for that TV. The 26" has no such settings. I use the TV’s settings to view the round circle and boundaries, but the outer one disappears off the edge. The TV provides no controls to adjust this and just tells you to adjust the TV, but that 26" Panasonic has no such controls.
The actual overscanning may not be caused by Plex, but the way the Guide is displayed makes it an issue when the TV has this problem. Other apps simply don’t put anything that close to the edge. I guess deliberately to avoid this problem. Whereas Plex have not foreseen this and cram the channel numbers up against the left side, and they are then not visible when this problem exists.
If they are so desperate to use as much of the screen space as possible, Plex needs to include a manual setting that adds a suitable margin.so those users so afflicted can still see all the screen info.
Hello.
I too was having the Apple TV guide problem. It seems like changes made in the beta have fixed it, yes? Have these changes been incorporated into a main release build yet?
