Episode play progress

I like the look of the bars everywhere because to me it illustrates a vertical progress as you move through a season. The 100% full bars seem almost like a check mark to represent that I've finished an episode and the empty bars show what episodes I have left to finish.

(That last style example — with no dots and no completed-bars — might be my favourite now, for that reason. It also mimics exactly the blue dot behaviour we're all familiar with, except with a more informative "half dot".)

Well a picture does tell a thousand words.
The identical left alignment of the text makes removing the blue dots worth it.
I am confused as to why Netflix essentially does the inverse though.

The next to last one (none, partial, empty) is my fav. I still think showing all the watched shows with the full bar is unneeded feedback that looks too repetitive. I felt this when I first saw Netflix's use of them and I still feel it now. The repetition of the full bars sometimes makes me feel guilty, as well. "What? I watched that much TV?" ;-)

Will you add this to the Original PlexConnect in GitHub?

And i think it should not show a full progress bar after finished watching ..

I'll create a pull request for one of the primary devs to merge in when they have time

Awesome .. It's just that i'm using Plexify which is auto-updating for Github so i wanted it to keep doing this :)

Thank you!

I created the pull request.

The main devs may want to spend some time testing it or not get to it for a while even if they like it, so I'm not sure when/if they'll merge it in.

As long as we're talking about progress bars I added one of the movie preplay screen (also like Netflix).

What do people think?

I assume you use grid view then?

I honestly forgot there was another option :-)

Yeah. If it's something people are interested in I'd be more than happy to work on adding it to the list view.

What I mean is that it might not make sense on the pre play screen in list view relative to the actual list view itself.
Maybe not so cut and dried as for TV shows.

Will you merge it with your Git?

From what I can tell the On Deck view always uses posters with no information about view progress. If you get to the PrePlay screen via the On Deck view I don't think there would have been any way to convoy that a movie is partially watched, much less how much of it has been watched.

If a film is on the on deck SHELF it will be by definition be partially watched, although there is no indication of how much has been viewed.

The other shelves on the on deck SCREEN.

So maybe the pre play screen progress bar does make sense.

However if you are in list view for the movie section should that not show progress for films - the same as for TV show episodes?

This might lead to duplication on the ore play screen though.

Any screenies?

Any screenies? ;)

One of the things that's potentially tricky for example is since the list/detailed-list view would probably show an empty progress bar for unwatched content, does it make sense to show it on the PrePlay screen? I'd think probably not since it's not providing any new information.

Even if you got to the preplay screen through the on deck screen, you've probably decided that you want to watch the movie and wether or not it's unwatched probably isn't very helpful. On the other hand it is helpful to see if there's any current progress to help you understand where it's going to start if you choose "Resume" from the screen that pops up for partially watched content.

Now I have seen the screens it makes me think that the only place it looks good is on the pre play screen (due to clutter), however I am not sure how it would effect any changes in terms of fanart views on iOS 6+.

Maybe worth putting a pull request in and then the code is there for when the fanart stuff is done.

Some nice work though

taller.. u have the code for the fanart stuff. just implement it and take a screenshot and lets se how it looks :)

Taller, thanks for continuing to work on the pull request, this is definitely a great addition to the app
