Episode title/metadata missing for newly added & recently aired shows

Server Version#: Docker 1.19.3.2852
Player Version#: Web 4.30.2

When a TV show (or more specifically, episode of anime) is added to my Plex library, and it only recently aired (say, in the past hour — or sometimes, the episode is added even briefly before the official air time), it seems that the metadata is not yet available, thus the episode is imported as, for example, “Episode 7” (not the correct title) with no summary.

I haven’t been able to find a (convenient) way for Plex Media Server to refresh the metadata at a later point in time. The obvious “Refresh Metadata” option executed on the episode in question doesn’t seem to do the job, and running “Refresh Metadata” on the entire show or media library doesn’t produce the desired result either (despite the episode title nor summary not being locked). This issue doesn’t seem to fix itself over time through a scheduled job either.

The only solution I’ve found so far is to SSH to the server, move the episode file away from Plex’s media folder, wait for it to disappear in Plex Library, then move it back. When doing this “dance”, the metadata is successfully refreshed – however, this is far from convenient, as the episode suddenly pops back to the top of the “Recently Added” list, and is marked as unwatched again.

In the screenshot below, you can see that the most recent episode is missing a title – even after running the “Refresh Metadata” commands as mentioned above.

As for TV show agents, I have The TVDB enabled:

And TVDB seems to know the correct title for the episode already, as can be seen here. (But as you can see, the episode titles & summaries for upcoming episodes are typically not available until after the episode airs).

Is there a better way to handle this scenario except of doing the dance with moving the file away and back? Thank you so much for telling me!

I’m sorry for a bump but since the original post fell quite a bit down in the thread list and I still haven’t been able to find a satisfying solution, I’m bumping it back up. Apologies!
