Plex Media Metadata Not Working

This issue appears to be happening for multiple users, from what I’ve seen in the Discord #general channel.
However, around Thursday (10/19), when any type of media file gets added to Plex, none of the media metadata gets added.
Regardless of how many times that library gets scanned. No changes on my end happened in terms of changing media agents.

Also, according to https://status.plex.tv/, everything is operational including the Media Metadata field.

My question is, is this a known issue? I looked through the forums for recent metadata topics and don’t see this. Is anyone else having this issue?

Btw, this is what it should be populating (this is a previous episode), when the media metadata was working.

Umm, not for me. Just added a new special episode for a show from 2 years ago, and the metadata loaded up for it just fine.

Refresh metadata for the episode, then supply the server logs. Perhaps someone here can look through them to figure out why your media isn’t pulling down metadata.

Are you using the standard library agents?

Here are the server logs. No, I haven’t modified the library agents.

What was being used a few days ago remains the same during this particular time when the metadata isn’t working.

Your example is an episode that just aired and the metadata for that episode was just added to TMDB and TVDB recently. It can take up to 72 hours (3 days) for updates on TMDB and TheTVDB to propegate down to Plex. Give it another day or two then refresh the metadata for that episode to see if it populates.

Also, have you simply tried restarting your server?

I’ve tried restarting the server and I don’t think that helped. Although you look to be correct with the TV episode, normally when I add a show that came out that same day, the metadata normally populates the next day. These batches of newer episodes (I have 3 different shows I added on Thursday that are having the same issue), could be taking longer than usual, I’ll see if the metadata populates after a few more days.

Also, I tried adding a few older movies and those populated with metadata.

However, an issue I’m still having is with an anime I recently added. The episode format is the same, but oddly enough, Plex only added the first 4 episodes, but the remaining have similar issues… no metadata is being populated. In this case for this anime show, the episodes have been out for weeks. Curious what I’m doing wrong here.

TVDB - 無職転生 ~異世界行ったら本気だす~ - Unknown - Season 2 - TheTVDB.com

While an episode has been out for a while on TVDB/TMDB, Plex now loads metadata for its episodes from it’s own service that scrapes those two sites (and IMDB?). So the best way to find out if Plex can load metadata is to load up watch.plex.tv, and look for your show there. I used that to verify that Billions S07E11, shown in your screenshot, was on Plex with metadata. I assumed that you had refreshed your metadata recently and still had no data, so I thought maybe we need to look elsewhere for info.

For Jobless Reincarnation, I see that Season 2 is in Plex’s database as well (up to episode 12. Cour 2 must not be out yet). If a show-wide metadata refresh (not individual episodes, for some reason…) doesn’t fix it, then I dunno. Everything should be working from what I know of how Plex works, so it’s now Logs time.

Ahhh! That seems to have fixed the issue, doing a show-wide metadata refresh. Previously, what I’ve done in the past that always works is doing a “Scan Library Files”, that normally discovers the file along with provide metadata; however for some reason that was not working.

Doing a show-wide metadata refresh fixed both the anime and new TV episode issues I was having. Thanks alot!
