I’ve been having an issue with files being renamed after a library scan. I have a ton of episodes of a current affairs series which I have named episode xx and then the file name. After running a library scan so that Plex recognises the new files I have then used the edit function to change the episode from episode xx to the name of the episode.
For example episode 01 renamed from within the library to Black Summer. That works for a while, all episodes are displayed with the episode name but then after a time when I run a library scan the episode name disappears and Plex changes it back to episode xx.
secondly: are your files using the mp4 container format? Plex might use the embedded “Title” meta tag from these under some circumstances.
Please tell what is currently selected under “Agent” for this media library, when you edit it and go to the “Advanced” tab.
The main problem I have is that the particular program I’m referring to has been screening since 1961 (Four Corners) The are episode lists online bit rather than listing seasons and episode numbers they just list season 2015, 2016 etc. That’s not much help because in many cases there have been multiple seasons in a year.
Why, if I edit the name of the episode from episode xx to a name and save it does it change back to episode xx ? That seems to defeat the whole purpose of the edit/general/save changes function ?
For Plex use, only what is listed on TheTVDB.com and TheMovieDB.org is relevant.
Take your pick which one of these is reflecting your particular file numbers better.
On both platforms, there is no such thing as multiple seasons per year.

Then adapt the naming of the files and put them into the required folder structure.
Software like Filebot is a big help with this task.
