So I go to download the latest upgrade for my Plex server and I notice there’s suddenly a 64-bit version.
Ok fine but where’s the detail?
Can I upgrade directly from 32 to 64 bit versions without issue?
I run as a service using the system tray utility to stop/start either side of an upgrade, will this still work?
What benefits does the 64-bit version bring?
Basically where are the release notes for this not insignificant change?!
Ok that’s useful to know but where are the release notes explaining all of this?
As a software developer myself, I’m literally staggered that they’ve just tossed out a new 64-bit build of the Windows server without any detailed notes on benefits, differences, caveats, upgrade procedures etc, unless it’s very well hidden somewhere.
It seems my main issue is going to be the PmsService third-party utility I’m using to run it as a service.
There doesn’t appear to be a new version of this which supports the 64-bit server or, if the existing one would support it, this is far from clear and I’m not prepared to take the risk.
EDIT: On further inspection it seems the latest version of PmsService does support the 64-bit version.
