Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-21_14-41-53.zip (3.5 MB)

I get error that the server is not powerful enough to convert video. This has never been a problem before and even small files from series at 450Mb H265 can’t be converted and need to be played in original quality.

Next issue is error: Can’t play media
I get this error when trying to play media from the Plex app using OS: Android, Android TV and Google Chrome.
Direkt play works from Mac OS Safari, Mac OS Plex app, Apple TV Plex App and iOS Plex app without any problems.
But media can’t be converted. Using anything but Android even large files like 4K movies up to 117Gb in size works.

I have 1Gbit/s upload speed and no network problem and have received error message that object needs minimum of 6502kbps to be played and only 720 kbps is available. That’s wrong. I have uploaded files to services like OneDrive with really fast speeds and good results.

Server have been updated to latest version without any changes.
Installation have been repaired
Server restarted multiple times
Plex Media Server Restarted
Media library updated, analyzed and recycle bin emptied

  • This did not help.
Firewall not blocking an din test purposes even a any-any rule was created to the server. iOS, Mac OS and Safari can play media.

Any Ides?

Maybe your “server is not powerful enough to convert video”?

Adding the servers specs would be helpful.

My server is a pretty old Nas, the Asustor 604-t. It’s pretty rubbish at transcoding so I just set it to play everything at its original quality.

If you’ve got such a huge upload speed, why you bother transcoding anything?

Hi,
I realize based on your reply that some information is missing.
The thing is that the error message that “The server is not powerful enough to convert video” I get even if the settings is set to stream in original/maximum quality.

The server is an:
Dell PowerEdge T30
Windows 2019 Server
Intel Xeon E3-1225 Quad Core 3.3GHz
8GB Ram
512Gb SSD

When I convert to lower quality is when I stream from my phone. But I get that error message even with real small files from series that is 1080p h265 around 300-400 MB in original size. Converting and a video has never been a problem until now and I do not understand why.
Using chrome on the actual server streaming video from local host I get the same issue. All media is stored on a few Snap RAID5 iscsi storage and I have even moved files to a M.2 SSD PCI Storage with 2,5GBs read speed just to trey and still get this issue.
Converting files to stream to my phone I get the error: object needs minimum of 6502kbps to be played and only 720 kbps is available

Streaming files in original size to my android TV I get the error: the server is not powerful enough to convert this file

A movie that you’re not work with chrome or android or an original or maximum quality so the final is not converted I get the error that the server is not powerful enough to convert the file. Streaming the same movie to my iOS phone or using Safari on a computer or using the Plex app for Mac the movie will work. But I can’t convert movies to lower quality on any device browser or any movie or file anymore.

I reinstalled Plex app on my Android TV and now I get the error: Can’t play media
I also tried to play a Trailer and get the error. “Can’t play media” even on trailers

Hi! this is happening to me as well. Videos that played fine yesterday, give the error “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” today. server has been rebooted. I always play my videos directly anyways.
