Error: Direct play is disabled when actually is enabled

I have problems to play some movies (specially old ones) in different players (Roku, Samsung TV and web player) some of these movies play in MacOS player, some other even not.

I attached the logs when I was trying to play “The 6th day” movie in Roku, the message on screen was “App cannot play this item. Direct play is disabled” however is enabled as shown in attachment.

The video codec of the movie is MPEG4 other movies with this codec I have seen so far have the same problem. Another codec with problem even impossible to play in MacOS Plex is MSMPEG4V3.

When trying to play the same movie in Chrome from my laptop get different error “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” Plex Server is hosted in a Dell Power edge with enough CPU (no GPU).

I have seen many other topics in this forum and other about similar error, but some of them are very old or don’t get me to any solution.

Any help will be appreciated.

Actually, you have that setting at “auto”. There are different variations of Mpeg4 and not all of them are supported.

Did you possibly turn off the ability to transcode on your server?

Thank you MovieFan.Plex, you were right “Disable video stream transcoding” was enabled, after disable it I am able to play these Mpeg4 movies on Roku, they still don’t work on Chrome but not issue for me as I don’t watch movies there anyway.
