Error playing all videos after 1.30 update

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486
Player Version#: 5.51.1 (Plex for Samsung)
QNAP 872XT
QTS 5.0.1.2248 build 20221215

After updating to the latest version, I get a transcoder error playing any video in my library.
These videos played fine before that.

Looking at the logs, I saw a lot of “No space left on device” errors.
I am assuming from the log that it creates the tmp files under /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer
which should have plenty of space:

[~] # df
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
none 400.0M 329.4M 70.6M 82% /
devtmpfs 7.7G 4.0K 7.7G 0% /dev
tmpfs 64.0M 1008.0K 63.0M 2% /tmp
tmpfs 7.8G 140.0K 7.8G 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 16.0M 0 16.0M 0% /share
/dev/mapper/cachedev1
1.5T 560.6G 965.3G 37% /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA

I would really appreciate help on resolving this or how to downgrade as I nothing plays anymore.

Thanks

On a side note, I am not clear why it is even transcoding as I have ‘direct play’ and ‘direct stream’ enabled and the videos don’t have subtitles.
In any case, the videos played fine before the update.

If you have TrueHD audio, and the player doesn’t support that, you’ll get direct stream.

1.30.0 and 1.30.1 have a bug with TrueHD.

Can you cut me a sample file which recreates the bug?
(I’ve been tasked with starting the debugging for Engineering)

I was having the same problem with this version as well I stopped the server deleted the Codecs directory and restarted the server and all seemed. Well I am also having other issues with this version so I downgraded to the latest 1.29 version for now

@PimpDiggler

Was it TrueHD audio ? Can you cut me a sample of the file please ?
I only need enough (elapsed time) from start of playback until when it starts showing in your logs. ( I am finding about 1 minute’s worth is pretty good but not a universal value)

The file does have TrueHD audio. While diagnosing the issue after the downgrade I think systemd-oomd had a role to play in never ending buffering situation both remote and locally. I will upgrade back to 1.30 and see if the situation persists after my server frees up.

I am running Fedora 37 Server for my Plex Server

I’ve run some pretty extensive tests on several platforms. systemd doesn’t exist on the NAS platforms but still the issue persists.

This is a codec issue.

My challenge now is to find the smallest sample file which reproduces it so I can run a strace and watch the system calls until it blows up.

Gotcha I will see if I can get you some logs when I upgrade back to that version. working on getting you a slice of the file as well.

And a minimal sample file if you can. All my videos are full bit rate

This file is a full bitrate 4k bluray rip that was being transcoded to SD@2Mbs on a remote Chromecast

How far into it did it before failure? 50-60 seconds?

About that 75 seconds is too big to upload is there is preferred hosting site for me to upload this file?

I use my Google Drive. Everyone gets 5GB free AFAIK

Hope this is sufficient

Thank you… testing now to see if I can reproduce

I found something else
Still digging to see how deep the rabbit hole goes :smiling_imp:

I have another sample as well it happened on Minions around the 17:00 mark I’ll get it uploaded for you as well.

After cutting the file, remux was required to write proper EOF markers.

Playing now

That sample, once remuxed, did not fail.

OK then the next sample file may or may not help I am about to upgrade to the latest version and see if I can get you some logs.

thank you for helping here. ANYthing you can do helps tons.
