I have the Plex App for Android. I want to cast music from my NAS to my TV via chromecast yet all I get is the error above, I see the Plex background on my TV but can’t get the music to play from the app. If I open the Plex browser, I can do it from there but it’s more hassle than it’s worth. Help!!!
I’m getting the same issue for video on my new phone.
Other devices can cast to the same Chromecast from my server
I can cast from other (external) servers to the Chromecast.
I can cast to the Chromecast if I disconnect the WiFi on my phone and connect via the pin.
I’ve had this Plex server working for almost a year now without making any changes besides updates and this just started happening when I got a new phone 2 days ago and only on my new phone.
If it matters it’s not working on a Pixel 3a but works fine on a Pixel 1. Same version of Plex and the settings appear to be the same.
Same exact issue here. Just upgraded from a Pixel to a Pixel 3a and now I can’t cast Plex to any device. The original pixel still works fine, also same app version.
Plex devs, please look into this issue. It is making the app entirely unusable for Pixel 3a users.

I plan on getting the logs when I’m home tonight and seeing if I can make sense of them I suspect it is a similar issue where the URL it is sending to a local chromecast is wrong for some reason.
Don’t have the Pixel 3a but I have a Pixel XL I just wiped. Are new device setups are causing the problem?
Server build 1.15.4.994 and Android Plex app 7.15.0, both newest builds. Plex was working prior to a factory data reset on the Pixel XL. I have a Samsung GS10 on the same Android build that is currently working right next to the Pixel XL. However, whenever I try to cast anything from the Pixel XL’s Plex app to the Chromecast, it says “Unable to play media” but it works fine to play on the device. GS10 is working for casting. Restarted the server to no avail. I even wiped the Pixel XL again and still not working fully stock with no other apps installed. Pixel XL is casting fine with other apps like YouTube.
Can’t edit my other post but I solved this problem with what @ChaoticUnreal said. I am running dd-wrt and added that line to the bottom of the DNSMasq settings. Tested working even with a custom firewall app filtering DNS queries, also tested with DNS over TLS with Adguard servers. No updates on the phone from what I see, no updates to the server since the issue either.
I am having the same issue…only caused by streaming to a Chromecast through the Android app. Anyone from the Plex team want to chime in?
