Every other video does not display

For the past several weeks I have been having a problem where watching videos through a web browser works fine for one, but then the next one will not display video yet the sound is fine. This seems to be most evident when watching the news channel. It did clear up for a little while, but now it is back.

I generally am watching through Chrome (83.0.4103.97) and I have cleared all the caches, cookies and site data. Then completely restarted Chrome to make sure there was nothing stuck in memory.

Anyone seen something similar? Is there a known fix?

Now EVERY news and webshow video does not display. Plenty of sound, but no video. If I had wanted radio, I would have looked at another platform, but I do have to say that I find it comforting that the Plex support staff ignores any support requests from paying members.

I especially like that the comment that I left that was complaining about Plex support (or more specifically the lack there of) was immediately flagged and REMOVED claiming that it was spam.

Need a lot more information please, including the DEBUG log files which are captured / downloaded immediately after recreating the failure

Server details please ? (platform & PMS version)
Browser running on which platform?

Its News so has nothing to do with server.

Does it do the same at https://app.plex.tv which is a much newer version of Web app.

Not exactly true. While the files are not coming off the server, but the Javascript client code that manages playing the media files and the user interface do come off the server. This is really where the problems are. There is something in Javascript code that is causing the problems. Even clearing caches and cookies only solves the problem for a video or two then it is back to not displaying any video.

I have even had this problem with some of the media files on my plex server, but generally the media coming off my plex server play consistantly.

News can be used without a server at all. The Web app interface is not the server. It is a separate app that is bundled with the server. The Web app at https://app.plex.tv will always be newer.

If you were running the current version of server 1.20.1 the bundled/local web app would be Version 4.34.4

The web app at https://app.plex.tv is 4.42.1

Hello

I have been experiencing this issue for the past weeks/months or so
Meaning

  • Playing News from the Web App (from Chrome over Fedora & Windows) => no video after I watch 1 or 2 news clips (maximum)
  • Playing the same news clip from Android or any other app => no problem at all
  • Switch to a Chrome on my mobile phone => same thing

Only thing I have not tested yet was through Firefox to see if this is based on the browser engine Chromium or not

Anyone tested it on Firefox, Edge, Safari maybe ?

so here are the logs downloaded through the web app, in case it might be helpful as I just tried this morning (Dec. 1st) and it happened after only playing one video fine and the second one refused to display any video (only audio)
