Raising for second time, sadly it appears the old QtWebEngineProcess high CPU issue is back for me, under idle conditions (no playback, but Plex app open with no GUI navigation) it is consuming over 45% constantly (63% right now).
Have noticed this constantly over a number of days now, reboot of machine makes no difference.
Can you please share the overall CPU usage graph at the bottom of that page? I have an M1 Mac with me and it’s showing about the same for QtWebEngineProcess but the overall usage is very low. I’m not a Mac expert but the total % CPU values from processes just don’t add up or they add up beyond 100%.
Also the way I’m reading your screenshot and mine is that the QtWebEngineProcess is a subprocess of the Plex app. So the 61.3% would be of the total 1.5%.
That specific view is the hierarchical view, so it’s NOT 61% of 1.5%, it is a specific process consuming this amount of 1 CPU core (this is standard for MacOS and many Unix implementations).
Hence a Mac with 10 cores has 1000% CPU capability, yep I know it doesn’t really make sense, but that is the way it is.
Regardless of the overall impact to system performance, when running Plex the highest CPU usage is QtWebEngineProcess, even when playing back media. This just can’t be right and should be reviewed when time permits, this impacts overall efficiency of systems (I use a MacBook and this does have impact to battery life).
Screenshot - Confirming Energy Impact (no video playback, Plex client idle)
I can understand that when using the app or during video playback, CPU should be consumed, however when the app is just open, idle and not doing anything notable sustained CPU utilisation like this seems odd. It’s higher than the MacOS window server or any of my Safari / Chrome processes…consistently.
