I currently use labels to share/restrict content with my friends and family. For example, I limit my child’s content to items I’ve labeled “kids.” This same system applies for both media and collections, so they only see those collections with the “kids” label as well.
Unfortunately, custom collection displays ignore labels when including my collections on the Home or Library Recommended pages.
In my example, I’ve included a (NOT kid friendly) collection on shared users’ Home pages. This collection still appears on my child’s Home page, even though the collection is not labeled for “kids.” They still can’t view the collection on the Collections page (as has always been the case), but it now appears on the Home page.
I’m wondering if this is actually a bug — should I report this elsewhere? It seems that if a collection has been labeled in such a way that specific users are restricted from viewing it, this setting should apply in all use cases. There shouldn’t be a way for these users to access the collection, regardless of where it is displayed.
After having included collections on home or recommended pages for a year now, I can safely say this is no longer an issue. Instead, here’s what I’ve found:
Collections will not be displayed on the Home page or Recommended page if no media is visible within the collection. “Empty” collections will not display.
In the example above, as long as a collection does not contain any kid-friendly content, that collection will not be displayed on the restricted user’s Home page.
Thanks for the update – I take it that means we can close this suggestion so everybody can reclaim their votes (and preferable assign them to their next priority suggestions)?
