Exclude folder

Hi,
I understand you can put a plex ignore file in to ignore a file but my understanding that this would mean any libraries would therefore ignore this folder, is that correct?
I have a Network share (Videos) and within that share there is a folder called music videos (Videos\Music Videos). I have 2 plex libraries, one called movies (which shows the content of Videos) and one called Music Vids which shows the content of (Videos\Music Videos).
The way plex surfaces content is that I see my music videos twice - when I don’t want to/I don’t want to see them in the Movies section. It would be nice to have a feature whereby you can say ignore these subfolders for this library, does that exist?
Any info or advice appreciated.

You should seperate your folders: one the videos, the other for music videos and point the respective Plex libraries to these folders. That is how it’s meant to be done

I suspected that answer was going to come back, I guess I’ll create another share for the Music Vids

Why not create subfolders in the one share you already have?
This is the recommended approach anyway, to have Plex looking at a folder instead of directly at a drive letter or share.

They are already in Subfolders. it just so happens that the Music Videos folder sits within the Vidoes folder. Hence everything shows up twice (once when scanned by the Videos Library, and once when scanned by the Music Vids library)

Yes, don’t do that. It doesn’t work
Separate libraries = separate folders.

OK, so I understand now that they are the rules and that’s why it’s doing what it is doing. My question now is why can Plex not allow you to exclude subfolders/why can that functionality not be added, as that is not uncommon of other programs to allow this kind of operation.

Totally agree, its crazy to think you can’t toggle a check box when adding a folder that says ignore sub folders!!!

what’s so complicated about it?
if you want to have all the videos in your videos folder, let’s organize it like this:

/ Videos
.. / Movies → linked by the movies library
.. .. / Movie 1 (year).ext
.. .. / Movie 2 (year).ext
.. .. / Movie 3 (year)
.. .. .. / Movie 3 (year).ext
.. .. .. / poster.jpg
.. .. / Movie 4 (year).ext
.. .. / ...
.. / Music Videos → linked by the music videos library (or as the music video path for local media assets)
.. .. / Clip 1 (Year)
.. .. / ...

How do you expect to keep Plex or any app up with you throwing everything in a single pot once you start forgetting to exclude/include folders?

I disagree… being able to select excluded folders is not an uncommon type of feature for this kind of software. I wish it was there

However, it is a valid point that maybe it’s not the best workflow and reorganizing the folders could be a better solution. That said, it always seems like someone is coming up with a better way for me to organize my files… Moving stuff around can be a pain and be annoying to find later

Edit: Also, if other programs are looking at these file locations is screws with them… i.e. playlists, torrents, hyperlinks/shortcuts, etc.
As with so many things, it’s often easier to say than do.

I want to add my support for this feature. I am using Plex to play recorded media from WMC, which hardcodes a temp folder into the recorded media folder.
Plex logs show lots of errors and it causes problems when it tries to scan the temp folder. If I could just exclude the temp folder, problems go away.

I know the right way to include this content is to remux and rename, but it really isn’t necessary for me and has other downsides.

Also having an issue with this. I use HDHOMERUN, and it organizes movies it records in a ‘Movies’ folder, but the TV shows library will include this folder, and I don’t know that HDHOMERUN software is able to specify a different directory for movies / sports etc.
