ExoPlayer often unable to play on Android

I’ve been having issues with ExoPlayer for about the 6-8 weeks where it will just refuse to play content - whether streaming or downloaded. I tried disabling support for certain codecs, and looking for such errors in logs, but they did not work. I then tried an external player (VLC) and that worked for the most part. I then opted into the beta program on Android, hoping that there would be some fixes on ExoPlayer. Unfortunately, still no dice, and as of yesterday, VLC stopped working as well.

(I redacted IPs and any identifiers I could find)

There are two issues I see in logs:

  • A java stack trace which says either invalid version or empty text.
  • Another stack trace which says it gets a 404 when trying to load the content.

To help debug the second item, I tried loading the same content on the Web App (4.143.0) on a laptop on the same network, and the content loaded with no issues.

Any help appreciated. I’m happy to try different configs or builds to debug.
