Experience Feedback

I want to start this by saying I absolutely love all the changes! It’s been a long time coming, and this fresh coat of paint is a much-needed improvement. The polish is fantastic, and I’m particularly excited to see how you’ve envisioned the TV experience. When you’re ready for me to dive in, I’d love to provide more feedback (extra early access? wink wink).

General

  • The profile icon looks slightly too big compared to the other header buttons. I’m not sure by how much, but even downsizing it a little would help it flow better. Maybe test small increments (e.g., 90%, 80%) to find the sweet spot?
  • I love the design consistency of all the buttons, tabs, and pickers—they flow well, and I’m really into it.
  • The corner radius on the posters looks super clean.
  • The size you went with for the posters is perfect.
  • The tabs at the top look great, but when there are fewer tabs, the boundary box doesn’t fill the screen. This doesn’t cause an issue since there’s no need to scroll, but I noticed the buttons get cut off visually if you do. It’s a minor nitpick, but worth highlighting!

Home

  • I like the inclusion of a home page, but in contrast to the ability to customize what’s presented to users via library recommendations, it falls a little short. Will this new “home” get the same treatment?
  • The labels under the titles indicating where the media is located are helpful for some users, but for others, they feel repetitive. Could there be a toggle in settings to enable/disable them? This would give users more flexibility while keeping the feature for those who need it.
  • A dedicated “continue watching” page accessed via the title and styled like the other sections would not only improve consistency, but make it easier/quicker to navigate for users who are very behind on lots of things (me) and want to pick something to watch.

Media Pages

  • I love the corner radius on everything—it makes the UI look super modern and smooth. However, this falls a little short on the popup modals. To fix this, I’d suggest making the padding for the buttons in the top left/right the same on both axes and aligning the modal radius with the button radius (e.g., using relative corner rounding) to modernize the look and feel. example.

  • The media information needs to force all ratings onto a new line. This already happens for some media items, but not all. It looks much better and cleaner on a new line, and when some ratings partially fit on one line, the second line looks empty and bare.

  • The rating button lacks consistency with the rest of Plex, as you’ve phased out showing just the stars. I’m guessing this is an oversight and on the roadmap?
  • The media description lacks proper UX to indicate it can be expanded—maybe add a “read more” button in-line with the text after the ellipsis?
  • The text alignment in media descriptions doesn’t look great for all items. Have you tried alternatives like justified or centered? Centered would be best for consistency with the rest of the design, but justified would help with edge cases where descriptions don’t fill out all the available space.
  • The buttons (watchlist, trailer, watched, downloaded, more) look like an afterthought and have way too much padding under them. My suggestions:
    1. Move them into the header alongside the cast button.
    2. Add one button to each side of the play button with their current styling so the main button isn’t so domineering (e.g., ellipsis on the right, trailer button on the left). I would also suggest graying out the trailer button when none are available as it would maintain design consistency and keep the main button centered at all times.

Live TV

  • The preview does not have a corner radius yet, but I’m guessing this is coming.
  • The “expand” button for the preview lacks design consistency with the rest of the buttons, particularly in material and size.

Categories

  • The vertical and horizontal padding on this page isn’t consistent.

That’s my initial thoughts for now, but I’m sure I’ll have more. I’ll return to this post to either edit or reply when I do…

…anyway, thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Agreed. My Home Page is about 30 collection rows from my server, same as all users using my server. The location label gets repetitive, clogs the space and serves no purpose in that case.

My one overall general thought is this app feels like it is designed for a big screen (tv UI) first instead of being designed for mobile.

So, before I take time out of my day to provide feedback on the TV experience, it would be nice if this feedback was at least acknowledged :face_holding_back_tears::joy:

I shouldn’t be shocked it was shipped in this state, especially given that the detailed feedback everybody provided about the mobile experience appears to have been ignored for the most part.

I still can’t help but question whether offering my own thoughts on the TV experience is even worth my effort, as much as i’d love to help tbh.

They asked for our opinions for PR, not to improve as it seems.
