Hello All! I have been using plex for about 3 years and i love it! I have a 2015 iMac 3.2 gHz 8gb RAM 2TB SATA drive. I have some WD 2TB external hard drive with my plex server attached, about 2 years old. Obviously a little outdated as a whole but i really just use it for plex. Lately, my mac has been incredibly slow when the external hard drive is plugged in. Everything takes forever to load. As soon as i exit plex and (properly) disconnect my hard drive, things are working normal again. It is only slow when the hard drive is in.
What would likely cause this issue? The external hard drive is about half full. internal HD is about 1/10th full. Is it time for a external new hard drive? Is it worth it to invest in a SSD external hard drive (Too expensive and time consuming to open my mac up and install internally!!)?
