On the Android app, you have the option to play the media using an external app.
But the external app does not show/list the subtitle files of the media.
Previously I was using Kodi and opening it in an external app still shows the subtitles without any issues.
Am I doing something wrong in the settings?
The external app is MX Player.
Please advice and thank you.
Plex has never passed external subtitles along when using an external player. That’s one of the limitations of that feature.
Is there any option or tweak on the client or server side to enable subtitle passthrough? Because it’s really a drawback for Android box which have a specific player with optimisation.
Nope. When using an external player, it only asks for 1 file so there is no way to pass along a subtitle. You’ll have to embed the subtitles if you want to use the external player.
No you don’t understand, I don’t have embedded subtitle showing either. Is that normal?
That’s up to the external player. If it’s embedded it should be available. Plex has no control over that. It sends the file as-is.
I just tested using MX player and I see the embedded subtitles as a choice when playing.
Hi, I have the same problem with my TV box in playing external subtitle in the external player while using Plex add-on in Kodi via XBMC/KODI Wrapper. Can you clarify whether it is an issue that Kodi only ask for ONE file and pass it to the external player? Or Plex has limited itself in passing only the video file when Kodi ask?
