External SRT subtitles not rendering on Fire TV

When using external SRT subtitles, they do not render on Fire TV. I have tried unselecting the subtitles and selecting them again, but this makes no difference. They properly render when using Plex on PC or when playing the MKV file directly in VLC player.

Embedding the subtitles in the MKV file using MKVToolNix does get them to work, but this is a time consuming process, and I’d rather not do this for every single file.
