Extreme Buffering after 10-20 Minutes of normal playback

Yes, reverting back to the February windows server 2019 build works. The issue is in March onwards updates. The Firecore Infuse developers helped me work that one out.

Strange. After reading that it might be the the March update, I upgraded from Server 2016 to Server 2019, with the last update in 2019 being in November 2019, but it still causes the same issue for me. Might be because I upgraded though vs installing new.

Did you have a problem with server 2016? Debating whether I should migrate from
2019 if 2016 does not exhibit this issue.

Nope. No issues with Plex and the Apple TV. Just an issue with the P2000 Quadro causing BSODs, which doesn’t happen on Server 2019

thanks. i wonder if ill have the issue if i rollback to 2016 then update it to current patch level or whether this is a 2019 exclusive issue regardless of patch level.

for your issue, try disabling TCP offloading as that resolved my issue back when i first installed 2019 and before march 2020 patch was released.

I just followed this doc https://support.rackspace.com/how-to/disabling-tcp-offloading-in-windows-server-2012/ and will test it tonight. It is a VM.

I hadn’t had any issues with Server 2019 for the past 2 years until recently.

I was so happy to find this thread because I have been having this issue for at least a few months. After spinning up a new 2019 server without any patches installed I was excited to test but I have yet to replicate the issue on my iPad tonight after testing for 4 hours on my normal server. Last night it was happening non stop.

Any follow up from the devs for a fix for Windows Server 2019?

I’m just adding that I am very pleased that I found this thread. I was wracking my brains trying to work out what was wrong with my setup. I even opened a case with Cisco (Meraki) to try and work out whether it was a wireless issue. I will say that I was not seeing this on Apple TV clients hardwired - only those on wireless.

However, moving to the ā€œoldā€ player in the Plex AppleTV client mostly resolves the issue for now. I say mostly, because the ā€œnot enough bandwidthā€/buffering issue still does occur, just less frequently.

Will be watching this thread intensely for a resolution from the devs! Hopefully not too long, because it’s driving the whole family nuts, especially during this quarantine…

So after a few hours of no issues on my AppleTV 4K, it stops playing randomly two minutes into a movie with the ā€œyour connection is not fast enoughā€ message. My AppleTV is using wired ethernet connection. So I stop playing the movie and switch over to my test Server 2016 VM. Same version of Plex. Plays fine without issue. After 10 minutes, out of curiosity, I switched back over to my primary server that runs on Server 2019. Right on queue two minutes into the movie it stops with the same message. I might have to give up on the 2019 server and migrate back to 2016 assuming hardware transcoding with my Nvidia card works ok on that.

im in the same boat as you. is your server 2016 patched with the latest monthly patch release?

It’s not. I can take a snapshot and try fully patching. I grabbed an older ISO I had laying around.

This is so frustrating. I had a Server 2012 box that had been running since October of 2012, upgraded it to 2012 R2 along the way and never had any issues. Built a Hades Canyon NUC late last year with 2019 to replace it, tested all is working fine, migrate over and a few months in this happens. It’s now been three months, is anyone actively working on a fix for this at Plex, do you need some beta testers?

that would be great if we can determine whether 2016 is a viable long term solution or if we have to keep the server on a older patch level.

Fully patched Server 2016 works fine so far in my testing. I am going to try and migrate my 2019 Plex server to it. I hate how Plex stores everything in AppData on Windows. Makes migrations more difficult.

I’ve also made a guide for my users. These settings seem to fix my issues. It’s just forcing the clients to ask for transcode instead of Direct Play and the old player based on someone’s recommendation in this post.

Windows Server 2016 Fully Patched

thanks for the follow up, agreed, migration is a pain and partly the reason I have not rolled back to 2016 so far.

Installed 1.19.4.2935 on my Feb Windows Server 2019 install and Plex have broken buffering again. Freezes every few minutes and my shows don’t buffer properly on my Apple TV 4K. It’s sucks enough that the dev’s don’t acknowledge their broken server but then they break even more in new releases. I only went to the latest release fix other bugs in their server.

Tell me me devs what to do. Is Windows Server 2019 supported or not?

for what it is worth, so far, my Jan patched Server 2019 is still working correctly with the latest 2935 build. how long it will last is uncertain. i’m planning to switch to Server 2016 but dreading the work needed to migrate the flat files in AppData.

Any update from the developers? Can we install Windows updates for Windows Server 2019 post February?

People with Server 2019, see the last few posts on this thread.

The fix works. I implemented it and have been enjoying the new player without issues.
