Extreme Buffering when Remote

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314 (23 Dec 24) via Docker
Player Version#: Many all up to date

I’ve been operating Plex remotely for years without a problem. Since the beginning of December I have been having an issue with extreme buffering (every 2-3 minutes) for remote clients. This is all clients (Android, Web, Windows, Apple) I have tried every possible solution listed here without luck. Yes, Relay is off.

I am wondering if anyone else has been having the same issues and if so if you’ve solved it.

If it’s happening to all clients, regardless of location, I would suspect an issue with the internet where the server is hosted. Anything chewing your upstream bandwidth? Or severe packet loss on the connection?

Packet loss is .05%, almost trivial.

I wanted to make sure I had isolated every cause internal possible before I called in the ISP, but I am about to give up and call them

Start by watching the Dashboard during such a remote playback.

Is the playback direct, or transcoded? If transcoded, do the (hw) indicators appear on both the “decode” and the “encode” stages? Or not at all?

Is the connection shown as local, remote, or indirect?

Did you disable your transcoder per server preference?

Thanks for the response. Went through all of that and nothing improved.

It is not supposed to improve, just by you looking at it.
It is supposed to provide some hints to possible reasons. So what does it say?

In the last 30 minutes I went from 3 mbps to 41 mbps. I am guessing something was wrong on the ISP side of things. Waiting for their tech to arrive to confirm. I hate IFMs.

Thanks to all who responded.
