Extremely disappointed by Credits Detection

I was pretty thrilled about getting the credits detection feature, but after having my CPU chewed for days and after watching a number of movies and series I must say I’m extremely disappointed.

There was not a SINGLE movie, where credits detection was correct.
Combined with the fact, that on Android the movie or episode even switches to the post play screen ripping you out in the middle of the action when it thinks the credits roll this is just awful.

Credit detection running for some movies every night over and over again without suceeding was another nail to the coffin.
I deactivated the feature as it is just totally useless this way.

EDIT: Just for the Records (I forgot about the TWO out of ten that were correct):

  • The Thing (2011) - fails to detect the (many) short mid credit scenes, detection totally arbitrary
  • RIPD 2 (2022) - correct
  • Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019) - credits too early, doesn’t detect the “mid credit scenes”, “real credits” again too early
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) - first credit roll not detected at all, after credit scene not detected
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) - credits too early
  • Firestarter (2022) - credits too late
  • RIPD (2013) - credits too early
  • Crisis (2021) - correct
  • 1917 (2020) - no credits detected at all
  • Black Adam (2022) - mid credit scene too early

I have quite a few of those movies and will test them out over the weekend.

I will say however with the one single movie I have watched that skip credits worked better than I expected.

Ant-Man (2015) gave perfectly timed results with both the mid credit scene and then the final post credit scene.

Tested 1917 and agree no credits detected.
Tested DSitMoM and though the credits weren’t detected soon enough they were detected eventually and went to the mid credit scenes and then worked as expected going to the final post credit scene.

Will test Spider-Man No Way Home and Black Adam later today.

Yes, can confirm.

Very interesting, that you have different results.

Some other failures I found:

  • Crank 2 (2009) - doesn’t correctly detect the short mid-credit scenes (similiar to “The Thing”)
  • Global Player (2013) - detecting credits much too early, multiple times
  • Iron sky (2012) - detects not existing mid credits scenes
  • Lego Movie 2 (2019) - detects not existing mid credits scenes
  • Piranha 2 (2012) - detects credits multiple times at wrong positions within the gag reel
  • The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008) - credits too late, detects multiple not exisitong mid credit scenes, at least it got the after credit scene
  • The School for Good and Evil (2022) - detects multiple not existing mid credits scenes

Yep we definitely do in some cases.
I just tested it and for me Crank High Voltage is a particularly weird one.
As the CREW credits start to roll there’s a movie still between each crew member. Plex rightly ignores them.

However further into the credits each of those multiple mid credit scenes triggers the button to appear on each occasion.
So for me Crank 2 and it’s non confirming credits is probably the biggest success story yet, at how well they can work (and I do agree they don’t work 100% of the time).

I do believe skip credits can be created by analysing the video OR by using a database.

I will post the xml for Crank 2 a little later today.
If you can do the same it may be worth comparing if one of us in using the online database and the other an actual locally generated one.
