The main reason I use Google photos is because they have facial recognition with advanced features (facial learning, search, filter, label, etc…). It would be awesome if Plex could provide similar functionality for photos.

Making a comparison, I find Amazon Prime Photo better in facial recognition
I dug into it a little more and it seems that Google doesn’t provide facial recognition service; only facial detection. It looks like Microsoft does though.

face detection = determine the presence of faces in the picture
face recognition = 1) + determine which person appears in the foto

Ahhh, no Google phot is not that bad (detection) I think both uses face recognition, but Amazon is doing a better job

Google photos provides facial detection, but they don’t offer it as a service in their API.

I have it and recognized each individuals, not only “faces”

My bad. I meant to say they have facial recognition in their product, but don’t offer it as a service in their API.
It seems a bit ungrateful to ask for this after auto-tagging has been implemented - but YES, the most important auto-tagging feature is facial recognition! Please try and incorporate it into premium photos.
I don’t think the photo tagging will be really useful until this is implemented. I won’t be using it until then. I don’t care to search for lakes or mountains, just for who is in each photo.
I, too, would really love facial recognition to be added.
I can understand that the cost of Plex (as a single entity) using one of the 3rd party services that do this (like Microsoft or Amazon) may be prohibitive, but what if the end user to have to sign up for the service themselves, and then just configure their Plex server to use that service. That should keep the usage level low enough for most users to keep them in the free tiers, I think…
