Failed to uninstall Plex prior to upgrading from DSM 6 to DSM 7

Good evening,

Firstly, apologies if the solution to this query is posted somewhere else or I have violated forum ettiquette by posting this as a separate topic. I have read the pinned post Synology - DSM 7 Release - Plex Installation Issues but can’t discern a solution to my issue.

In a nutshell, I arrived back from vacation to find my Synology NAS informing me I had an available update. Not being the most technically savvy individual, I unthinkingly updated the firmware without checking this forum first, and as such did not uninstall Plex from DSM 6 prior to the upgrade.

I have since attempted to follow the instructions within the Plex Installation Issues post, to no avail.

I think the issue hinges around the fact PSM was not uninstalled prior to updating DSM. Has anyone else fallen prey to this mistake, and if so how did you resolve it?

Thank you

To add to Trumpy,

  1. It happens.

  2. Before you compound things
    a. Verify your metadata still exists in the “Plex” share

  3. If it doesn’t, Come back here for instructions.

  4. If it does, Uninstall + ERASE option (gets rid of the errant DSM 7 install)

  5. Now you can install 1.24.2.4973 and do as it instruts.

BE PATIENT… Changing permissions in the Plex share can take a long time.

ALSO, it helps to turn off the Syno Indexing service if on.

Thanks both. It turns out I hadn’t set permissions for the folder where my media was.
