Upgraded to Synology DSM7 and cannot start/stop nor uninstall Plex

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.41.3.9314-70009314

Hi all,

after upgrading from DSM6 to DSM7, I had plex not working anymore. I found some tutorials about how to repair/make it work. But in my case I cannot start/stop PMS, nor uninstall it. So I can not apply the proposed fix. Nothing in the dropdown menu below is working

I’v also tried in SSH, return code looks OK, but in fact does not do anything.
sudo synopkg uninstall PlexMediaServer-1.41.3.9314-70009314
{“action”:“prepare”,“error”:{“code”:0},“stage”:“prepare”,“success”:true}

Any advice is welcome :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks.

Vincent

Hi again,

I found a solution thanks to the suggested topics in the forum. This was due to DSM7.1.1 version, now upgraded to 7.2.2 its OK.
I have done the installation of the right PMS version, changed the permissions, everything looks OK at PMS launch, but the migration of my library is never done. I start with a “blank” PMS. Any way to “force” the migration ?

Thanks.

Vincent

  1. Uninstall the DSM 7 Plex app and use the ERASE option
  2. You must set the “Full Control” permissions for the Plex share
    – The “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files” is critical
  3. Instructions below (Scenario 2)

There is a known issue with latest DSM patch… https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/191233?reply=521831

Hi all,

problem solved :slightly_smiling_face:, thanks for your help.

@odingalt @vincefr34

You can confirm this patches around the Syno.SDS error ?

@ChuckPa the patch didn’t work for me, have to do synopkg from linux command line via ssh for now :frowning: Also my plex completely stopped working, had to uninstall plus delete whole folder from linux and re-install from command line and set everything up again. It stopped playing anything, yellow swirly forever, nothing in the logs. Plex is working again but my package center is still messed up. Their support said no fix until February 2025… they’ve known about it since November 2024…

Your alternative, which is hardly an alternative, is to update to DSM 7.2.2 where everything magically works again.

For Plex, you’ll need to switch to the DSM 7.2.2+ package instead of the regular DSM 7 package

Exactly what I’ve done, upgraded to DSM 7.2.2, install the right plex package, and then copy my plex library directory in the new location, to recover my plex setup.

It is possible to leave the PlexMediaServer diretory EXACTLY AS-IS.

The installation scripting has not changed.
When the 7.2.2+ scripting runs, it will look for, and continue with, an existing server installation as it always does. When one is found, it uses that instance and continues normally.

The fundamental change between 7.0 → 7.2.1 --and-- 7.2.2 is Synology changed the menu scripting language which required us to rewrite the menus in the new language.

I’ve made a quick FAQ to show how to start/stop Plex using Task Scheduler.
