Over the last two weeks, I set the machine to record “Making It.” It ran eight or nine episodes over two weeks with two episodes on at least one of those days. When I when to watch today, it seems like it completely failed to record three of the nine. And many of the ones it did record are labeled as other episodes. There are no recordings labeled “failed” or “partial.” No messages or alerts that anything might have not gone according to plan.
After I found the first one missing, I checked the EPG and I believe it did list all of the episodes for the upcoming week.
This lack of basic functionality confuses me.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I am having this same problem. Plex did not record “The Simpson’s” this evening. It appears to be because incorrect labeling of episodes by Plex (or maybe the Guide was wrong when the show was recorded). So last week’s episode (Ep. 9) was saved by Plex as (Ep. 10) and therefore as best I can tell when Plex compared the Guide to what it already had, it saw there was already an episode 10 and did not need to record tonight’s NEW episode. Plex really needs to solve these kind of bugs or explain them. I don’t see an option to force recording of a show in the “scheduled recordings” settings so I’m not sure what the workaround is. I can change the title of the recorded episode but I’m not sure that would make any difference. Currently from this season I have episodes 1,2,3,6 which are correctly labeled, episode 5 is incorrectly labeled as episode 7, and episodes 7,8, and 9 are incorrectly labeled as 8, 9 and 10 respectively. Plex is a great product but I expect more from a service I’m paying for.
I’m experiencing similar frustrations on multiple series. I’ve noticed it on Bull, Carol’ Second Act, Simpsons, Making It, Batwoman, and a number of other shows. All of them with misnumbered episodes causing the recordings to be skipped, or if I’m lucky, simply mislabeled.
Not sure what to do, but it’s pretty frustrating.
As for using Personal Media, that’s not the solution. The problem is that the guide data is incorrect and so the file is named incorrectly. Even if the guide data is kept or ignored, the filename is incorrect (saying e.g. S31E11 instead of S31E10). The episode name appears to be correct on my files, but the number is off. Compare the plex EPG episode name and number to what is on thetvdb.org:
I am still having this same issue. I thought my recording of The Flash was the latest episode, and while it has the correct episode number and thumbnail, the system replaced the recording with a previous file. This is happening all over my system and I am running the latest build. My system is on a Synology 918+ with 8gig of RAM, 10TB of storage (40% used) and not much of anything else running other than light file service. There are no conflicts at the scheduled times and no error messages. This issue has been going on for months now.
I don’t know if it’s related issue or something else, but I’ve found mine is not adding things to the DVR schedule, so if I remember to search for them, I can manually record the missing shows with curl.
Just saw this thread after posting similar issues here. I see much of my recorded show repository is mislabeled. It’s really sad as the only way to reliably time shift a show using a ROKU is by watching a recording. I’m convinced PLEX has given up on LiveTV. There are basic features that have been broken for almost 2 years without any progress nor even mention in the release notes. I’m thankful for YTTV and EMBY for being there
Same symptoms on my Plex dvr. It occasionally labels a recording as if it were the following week and then doesn’t record the next episode. 2 weeks later it goes back to normal, correct operation.
I’m having the exact same issues here. On random shows recorded via the Plex DVR thru my HDHomeRun Prime tuner. It will record a show with the correct show name, but it will mark the episode number one digit higher than it should be (E02 instead of E01). When this happens, the next week the DVR sees that the episode number showing for that week is already showing listed in the database so does not record the show causing me to miss episodes I don’t have because the episodes are being marked wrong. This is an issue it looks like has gone on way too long. Plex, where is the solution to this issue???
