So I’m trying to recommend that my family use my plex server for their viewing and listening pleasure. Particularly for photo sharing, because half my family are on iOS and the other half use Android devices. Plex makes sharing content cross platform so easy.
Personally I think Plex as a user is incredibly straight forward to understand and highly intuitive. Sure setting up and maintaining a server is a little more complex and indeed requires perseverance and technical know-how. But for a user to consume the media… Easy as eating cake.
However, I’m encountering considerable push back from nearly everyone. Strange phenomenon. Many adult family members mistakenly hear the name “Plex” and think it must be too nerdy and complicated to use without even trying it. They point blank refuse to give it a fair go saying it sounds way too complex. Yet, my 7 year old son tried it straight away on his ipad and absolutely loved it, used it with considerable ease! I didn’t even need to show him how! There he was browsing through family videos, photos, the lot! Awesome.
Humans are indeed a weird bunch. I can only guess it must be the name Plex putting people off? Perhaps if it was called “Easy Player” maybe everyone would be wanting to use it. But Plex does sound comPLEX I suppose.
Has anyone else experienced this push back from family or friends, wives, girlfriends etc.? How did you manage to overcome this?
Maybe I’m just surrounded by closed minded people?! haha!
Haha! Yeah you’re probably right.
