“Hi my names Tom and I’m a Plex user” It started about 5 or 6 years ago. A friend said it would help me relax and it did.
It was dependable, simple, clean, easy to use, ran on freebsd, it was EVERYTHING I wanted and need to manage my stuff. I’m a busy person with better things to do than administrate stuff and Plex just seemed to work, always…
But over the years my once faithful media server companion has developed some bad habits, in fact I’m now embarrassed that I used to be such an advocate. So much in fact that I bought a lifetime pass.
It used to provide my kids with media on demand. Now every time I mention it they say things like “Its garbage Dad, it never works”. I get defensive and eventually they hand me a device to look at. Sure enough there’s always some kind of problem. Yesterday it was the application on one iPad. Works fine on the others, same version, same platform … I don’t have time for this.
Then there is the mystery game of “WTF am I looking at? Is this the server? Is it local? Why is Convoy suddenly on my machine? Who is this mystery user who has appeared (for real)?”
This is the only application I have ever owned which leaves me utterly confused about which instance of my stuff I am looking at?
Then there are all the “Online Media” service add ons which just appeared and made me spend 10 minutes working out how to remove all the stuff I didn’t want.
Plex UI people, I’m talking to you… you need to make it really obvious when the content is mine and it is my server, and when it is whatever this other junk is.
Please please please go back to being the simple dependable software which allowed me to mange my media and take a page out of the simple UI book which says keep it simple until the user decides to add features.
I doubt you are going to pay attention to my rant, but take a look across the Internet and you will see hundreds of other disheartened lifetime subscribers banging their heads on the keyboard asking “What happened to plex?”
