How many times have you had a guest ask, “What song is this?” at one of your parties?
Have you ever thought it might be cool to have a movie poster of the movie playing on a screen outside your theater room?
I’d love to have access to a screen that has details about whatever is being consumed by my server at that moment. Yes, I’d have to choose which thing if I have multiple users. And it should look different for each media type.
I could (maybe) access this by clicking on the “now playing” element I want details for in the plex client. Or maybe it’s a click in plex dash. Maybe it’s as easy as hitting my serverIP:68987 or something dumb like that.
My personal setup would love this for the party trick (set up an iPad with what’s currently playing on a screen with lyrics, cover art, song title or even better via a link for anyone to hit on their own device) and also for the headless plexAmp for Pi solution I’m running. I have a 7" touchscreen that’s hooked up to the pi that stays black because the solution is, um, headless. And I don’t hear a lot of people clamoring for a fully headed solution.
There’s already a more generic suggestion to support displaying the poster of what’s currently playing on a 2nd screen. Though it seems that suggestion doesn’t cover additional details such as lyrics.

If that’s what you’re looking for, I suggest you comment/vote in those threads in order to avoid distracting votes.
Thanks for the pointer. When I searched, I didn’t use keywords that would have pulled either of these suggestions up.
You’re also right that these focus more on the movie poster use case than the music one I’m focused on—though one could argue that from a feature perspective they’re essentially the same ask.
As a “ninja” do you recommend I insert my request into one or the other of those requests to consolidate votes? I’m reluctant to since my search didn’t pull up either of them. But then again, I’m not watching how the product owners fill their backlogs in plexville.
I usually tend to favor consolidating similar suggestions — especially if they haven’t yet been able to stand out on their own. This can sometimes help to refine a suggestion and gain more support.
We tend to keep duplicate threads in the forum even if we close them. By including a link to the consolidated thread, this should allow users to find it more easily and from more perspectives/angles.
