I have an issue with fast forward on Apple TV. I see the progress bar indicator moving from left to right, however if I want to stop at a certain point it just goed back to the initial starting point. I have to use the 10 sec op tipn to go to the point where I wanted.
I run the latest Plex app on the latest update of ATV.
From what you describe, you click Back after reaching your “destination” on the progress bar.
Try clicking OK instead (or click the touch bar on the 1st Gen Apple TV 4K).
Thanks, I am using the ok button to confirm the ‘stop’ but still same issue. If I use the fast forward for 4 or 5 minutes it works, for a much longer forward period it just goes back to the initial starting point. Very frustrating. On Infuse I do not have this issue but prefer Plex much more.
Just after checking further. If I change in settings to use the old player, everything is working fine regarding skipping forward, however the player starts to transcode so I prefer to use the regular player. I have noticed that the chapters are visible for me to select but Plex does not do anything after clicking on them. Hope someone could support…
Any one from Plex with a solution for this? I use also Infuse and all works fine. On my Mi Box everything works fine as well. So really seems to be an issue with Plex app on Apple TV.
I have this same issue with the Plex app on our Apple TV 4K (64GB): fast forwarding and rewinding works for a while, but at some point fails 100% thereafter until one exits both the recording and the Plex Apple TV app.
(I have not been able to find any user interface documentation whatsoever, so I’m not sure what the UI is actually supposed to do. If I misunderstand the intended function, please forgive my ignorance. BTW, if anyone knows where a Plex Apple TV app user guide may be downloaded, I would appreciate a reply.)
Our Apple TV 4K came with the Siri Remote (2nd generation) Apple TV remote control. (The Siri Remote (2nd generation) has a round touch-enabled clickpad surrounded by a ring of four (direction) arrow keys: up, down, left, right.)
While playing a video recorded from our HDHomeRun HDFX-4K tuner by Plex, one seems to be able to fast forward or rewind by pressing the remote’s right arrow or left arrow, respectively. The Plex Apple TV app UI then displays a horizontal scrubbing bar, depicting the current position with a thicker bar, and what seems to be the target position with a vertical line. A digital format time is also displayed. If one presses the arrow repeatedly, the rate of scrubbing increases. Pressing the center round clickpad appears to select the new video play position and initiate play resumption (at the newly selected position).
Fast forwarding and rewinding seems to work for a while as I described above. Eventually, randomly, the described fast forwarding and rewinding UI appears to be working, but the play position always reverts to the point where fast forwarding or rewinding was attempted. The only way we have found to restore fast forwarding and rewinding functionality is to stop playing the recorded video AND exit the Plex Apple TV app; then re-launch the Plex Apple TV app; and then re-select and re-initiate playing the recorded video.
Neither the recorded video source channel, file format, nor resolution appear to impact this issue.

FWIW, the plex developers have added this “feature” to the LG webOS plex player, too.
I used the ability to seek along the program’s time line until the thumbnail showed what I was looking for an pressing OK to start playing at that point.
Unfortunately, ever since the plex logo changed to nifty looking lower case, curly (or is it more curvy?) lettering, this feature has been broken. and any attempt to advance the spot being played results in wasting some time to find the location you want, pressing OK, then having the player return to where to started.
FWIW, the exact same activity works perfectly on the Roku, which also sports the new, improved logo. But on my LG TV running webOS there is no way to seek a position within a movie (or TV show.)
I would provide the player version, but after much searching through everything I could find onscreen in the player I was unable to locate any version information. Is it missing or just well hidden?
I don’t know about any stream gunk from Plex as I will never access any of that. I have a Plex server to stream my own stuff and that’s what I paid for – not for the personal library support to slowly seem to degrade as shiny new features that I never wanted are added. Ahem. Sorry.
I use handbrake to code all of my media using the same preset, but perhaps the server just gets confused by some of them. Oh well. I might try to re-enode the media again from the source to see if I can find a setting the server understands. Thanks for the hint, at least.
We only use PMS for Mac and Plex players to watch and record OTA Live TV sourced from a 4-tuner HDHomeRun, mostly my wife using the (until version 8.6, which is non-functional) Plex for Apple TV app. The problem seems to still occur, but with version 8.6 being completely useless for OTA TV, I can’t test now.
